Apartment X OOC

There's an RP over in the CG RPG board that takes place in the Marvel world. It's about an apartment building that caters to mutants. It's something of an experiment to determine if humans and mutants can ever truly get along. Does anyone want to get involved in this?

Well, we wouldn't be starting over so much as we would just pick up the speed a bit. I'm not even sure the apartment building had even opened up yet(!). Those of us that are here could continue with our old characters (tweak 'em if necessary to account for the lack of old players) or start new ones. I was hoping to get some new players, too, actually. Dave's already has a character ready to go. :p

With the creation of a Marvel Universe thread, I have decided to start a new OOC Thread for bringing back the Apartment X thread. Do we start over, or resume from where we were before?

I think the best thing to start with is to find out who's still around and interested. ;)

The idea was that there was a secret apartment being set up for mutants. The mutants, though, didn't know the extent of their powers yet, and so they couldn't control them that well, and weren't all that powerful.

Concept might change, though, depending on the feedback from others. :whaat:

I'd love to keep working with this but I'm not sure if I have time to do it. I would like a full restart simply to edit/change a few of the background events for the Apartment. And yes, Jack will still be running the building.

I think a full restart might be best because we've lost almost everyone from the old SL. This way we can run a new recruiting campaign as a new SL. So, do we go with the same concept of youth who are learning about their powers?

I think youth is a good way but I always saw it as bringing people together and seeing what goodness shall happen.

Okay, so any mutant can come to the apartment and live in safety. Of course, non-mutants also live in the apartment. It isn't a hero team, like the X-Men, just a bunch of people living together, with the villians thrown in the mix just to complicate everyone's life. :whaat:

I can't see any real problem about re-starting it. It's a Marvel story. Just call it "The All-New All-Different Apartment X", keep half the old characters and act as if the previous characters never existed.

I've got what was going to be a character intro post (and ended up half a dozen or so large posts) sitting in the creative forum I could send over here if the character fits with the new direction (it was something I threw together back the last time someone mentioned starting up the story).

You might want to check with Blinkz though, I think it was his story to start with? He does still pop in occasionally.

Ok...I have a character that I have been developing for some time. * He has been copyrighted and may actually see print within the next year. * Fingers crossed. * Long story short..I'd like to use him in Apartment X and the JL Embassy.

His name is Breakthru and he is a theif who has the ability to jump through mirrors. * *He is a graduate of MIT who got involved in a bit of mystical/occult magics and now has this gift.

His body is covered in nanites which is the conduit that allows him to have this gift. * He can cover his entire body in a reflective skin which adds a bit of protection.

When he enters a mirror he enters a dimenstion that has links to every other mirror on the planet. * * I was hoping to use this character and have him make a home in both campaign forums. * *

No super strength. *Just above average intellect and a partying spirit. * *He is a theif..but he really considered a good guy. * *He is Irish. *Owns a pub and his best friends are the detectives who are trying to catch him. * *He prefers to take high profile jobs and loves to see his codename in the paper.

What do you all think? *Would it be ok to play the same character in both forums or does that go against what was created?

I have no problem with him being used in both forums, but the Universes are separate, so the two would still be independent entities unaware of the other universe.

I think I'm going to bring Cyber back with some modifications.

Cyber is an 18-year old computer genius and hacker. His mutant ability is the ability to enter into cyberspace and travel through computers, networks, and the Internet. He has a computer-like memory, and can store and access terrabytes worth of information instantly. Entry/Exit portals are computers of any kind with network/Internet access.

Jason, there is a manga that has a living computer program who can do those kinds of effects and then some. If you want to check it out, its called A.I. Love You by Ken Akamatsu.

Otherwise, it will be fun to have Cyber back. I do have a plot hook to toss his way.

LM, is this the sort of character who would work with what you're planning? Dave, I would say thats nearly perfect. Apt X while having government ties, is independent and a monitor operavite, even if he didn't know he was such, would blend in nicely.

I like to supply balance, so I'd be creating a female - well even if Night makes a female - there's still a lot of guys. OK, quick explanation of what Mac's up to so far.

I've taken the liberty of hinting that the spooks arranged with Jack on Mac's behalf for him to meet up with Mac at the caf Mac's in. This doesn't have to happen any time soon (I'm currently completely creatively blocked so am in no hurry to start anything... *:roll: )

He's one of those mutants that nobody can tell apart from normal people unless they have all sorts of high-tech equipment... his mutant power is so subtle he never knew he had it himself, and he's had it for six or eight years by now. Jack can know as much or as little about him as is necessary for the plot.

Dave, noted. Once I get the prior two settled, I'll see what is doable. Jack probably has an application 'sent' by Mac's spook friends with just enough reason to think there is more then he's read but not the truth.

Personality: Sam's the typical nice girl on the block. She will make every effort to smooth out a situation and seems to be impervious to any anger directed at herself. A gentle soul, she lives for the moment and passes her congeniality along her all to her customers at Burt's Diner, where she serves as a waitress, cook and bottlewasher. The diner is her only income and it really isn't enough, but she doesn't really want to leave her clientele there - and secretly she doesn't think she's good enough to make it in a big, impersonal restaurant.

Mutant abilites: As far as she knows, none. She does have her secrets though. Some of which are the reason she has been driven from more intimate personal contact with people.

Alrighty - here's Sam's story:
First thing I was thinking of was that if Burt didn't think Sam was eating or getting enough money to live, he'd feel bad and probably help her out. So where is her money going? Her money is going to support payments for her child. Her husband left her and the courts considered her "unfit to parent" due her "hallucinations". They figured she's crazy and the only reason she isn't in the looney bin is that she doesn't appear harmful to society. Sam is sending the payments, not because she is required to by law, but because she is trying to prove that she is capable of supporting her child. Her husband has divorced her though, and the likelyhood of them getting back together - or even her visiting her child - is near nil. Hence, her heart for the lost girl.

Now, the hallucinations are not hallucinations at all. The people Sam sees are actually from another dimension that is more technologically advanced than hers. Whenever they use their methods of transportation (like a slow teleport) they appear in inter-dimensional space - which Sam, and only Sam, is privvy to. These people can't see what they are walking through - they are completely oblivious to Sam's world - except for one person. Alberta is a business woman that travels the same route every day. One day, there was a slight malfunction in the equipment used to send the commuters, which left Alberta with the ability to see the realm through which she and everyone else passes every day. When she found out that Sam could see her, Alberta found a way to remain in transport so that she could communicate with Sam and perhaps solve the puzzle as to how this happened to Alberta. "Al" was also curious about this new world. She and Sam ended up becoming friends, which didn't help Sam appear less crazy, as she now seems to talk to herself quite often.

Well, that was long - I think that is all for now. This whole thing really hit me like a speed-train! I'm surprised my sample remained in the dish (and that I finished my sample before posting! ;) )

Edgar "Edge" Shank, AKA Nemesis

He is a wealthy businessman, and he is a mutant. He sees mutants as the future, and that humanity's days are numbered. His personas between "Edge" and Nemesis are kept separate. He is smart and knows that both mutants and humans are against him, so he refuses to give away his public identity.

He knows of Jack and his plans with Project Unity. He doesn't yet know the location of Apartment X, but he will be opposed to it vehemantly. Even his businessman persona will fight Apartment X on the business/legal level, without giving away his true objective.

He is extremely intelligent, having attended the best schools, without anyone realizing he was a mutant.

Flight (via the TK)

Normal Abilities:
Very high intelligence, not genius, but very close
High charisma, is a very charming person, and can often get his way
Voice mimicry, he has a talent from childhood of being able to mimic voices.

In his Nemesis persona, he wears a black leather suit with mask, and his favored weapon is blades of all kinds, including small blades (knives, stars, etc) which he throws with incredible speed and accuracy as a result of his telekinesis.

Couple of things here: Obviously, Tink and I are a little ahead of the others daytime-wise, so I think we should probably wait a little until someone decides that its the next day. I'm sure that there are a number of ways that edge can get to Apartment X. ;)

I was expecting the offers to get turned down. One of Edge's next plans is to talk to his lawyers about secretly looking into ways for a buyout. Now, I'm sure that can't happen, but it could be an interesting twist of events to allow the action to start moving forward on that level, if you're interested.

While his lawyers fight Jack's lawyers, Edge will be trying to find the building and eventually paying it a visit as Nemesis.

LM, if you aren't going to describe what the apartments look like could you send me a quick PM explaining what they look like inside... I honestly wouldn't have a clue. In this part of the world people live in houses not office blocks and someone like Mac would get together with two or three friends and rent an old house. (Incidentally Mac thinks they are bedsits i.e. one large room for living and sleeping, one small kitchen and one small bathroom/laundry/WC).

I was thinking probably a living room/kitchen, a bathroom, and a bedroom for layout. Maybe with another room undefinded use. I'm basing this on an apartment a buddy of mine had. I meanwhile, went and got a floor in an old house another buddy of mine got.

I want to stay with this thread, but I can't control two characters in this SL. I'm thinking on dedicating my posting to Nemesis and having Cyber be behind the scenes working at his new job. And if it becomes necessary to use Cyber for some computer work in the SL, I can temporarily reactivate Cyber for that "job." That work for everyone?

Well, Cyber has no more posts until "noon" when he meets with TJ to go shopping. Nemesis has no posts until the evening, when he returns to Racoon City and Apartment X.

I thought of something regarding Cyber/Nemesis. Since Cyber does most of his posting during "daylight" hours, and Nemesis works mostly at night, I think I can keep both of them active in the SL, since they shouldn't cross paths too much. If it proves to be too much, though, I'll go back to my original plan. :whaat:

OK, in an effort to unstall the SL, here are a breakdown of impending plot ideas I have. Input and ideas from all of you are requested as well.

Nemesis attacks.-Its set to happen. Its the closing act for the first storyline.

Media Circus- The press discovers Apt X. I am thinking someone gets a photo of the fight with Nemesis and some of the fireworks around. Maybe some inside info from evil sources. End result is people's lives are about to become public.

Tracker- This is what I've been building towards. Everything for Jack is tied into the Tracker mythos thats run through my head for years. Or at least open the first stage of the story.

Also, requests for others plots and handling this baby are requested. I've got many a plot and if I know at least one other person is working on the Apt, I'll feel better.

I'm ready to move to evening for Nemesis's attack. I was just waiting on TJ's final reply to Cyber to end that part of the afternoon. If that isn't going to happen, I'm ready to move with the attack of Nemesis.

At the present, I have no new ideas, but that's partly because I've been so wrapped up with everything else going on (other SLs, the board migration, the CBReview theme, life in general :whaat:). Maybe after Nemesis attacks, and that part of the SL plays out, I'll have some more ideas.
