Planet Nero is a planet that has two extreme climates and kingdoms. The kingdom to the South is called Fotia and is mainly desert. It has blistering heat. The kingdom to the North is called Pagos and is full of snow and ice. It has freezing temperatures. The citizens of both kingdoms have long since gotten used to the climates. For much of Nero's history the kingdoms of Fotia and Pagos would go to war. This ended because of the Great War. Fotia and Pagos had a war so horrible and bloody it almost destroyed the planet. Children were orphaned and it was hard to find someone who had not lost a least one loved one because of it. Queen Ember of Fotia and King Lars of Pagos called a truce. Both had lost their families and almost their own lives in a war they couldn't even remember why it started. In the Mountains of Mesos, they built the City of Eirini. Built perfectly halfway between both kingdoms, it serves as a peaceful meeting point for the rulers and a place of trade between the kingdoms...

Five years. Was that it had been since he buried all his biological children? King Lars of Pagos thought as he arrived in the City of Eirini. It was finally finished, the city that he and Queen Ember of Fotia agreed to build after they called a truce. Both had lost so much, their kingdoms had lost so much. He looked around the new streets and freshly painted buildings, a new start for Nero. One that was long over due. He tried hard not think that his only biological daughter and three sons had died not far from this city, killed in a war he couldn't even remember why he and Queen Ember had started. He thanked the gods his wife had died before she had seen their children die...No parent should have to out live their children. He smiled as he saw the families around Eirini. Both citizens of Pagos and Fotia had come here to start new lives. Seeing the little children playing made him think of Selene, his young adopted daughter. She brought happiness to him, helped heal that part of his heart that felt empty since he had buried his other children. He would always miss his beloved children but little Selene gave him something to live for. He had left her in Pagos though for his visit. Nero finally had peace but she was his only living child, she meant the world to him. He would never risk her safety. She was all he had left, although she had begged to go with him. He would have to bring her a present, Lars thought as he headed to the meeting hall to wait for Queen Ember to arrive.

Never did Queen Ember of Fotia think there would be a time she would be meeting Pagos' king in peace. Peace was a new concept to Nero, it had only been five years since the Great War ended. And yet it felt like yesterday...Her two sons and three daughters all dead along with her darling husband. Killed in a war she couldn't for the life of her remember why it started. Maybe the gods were punishing her and King Lars for the war? She often wondered that because a parent outliving all their children was something she would wish on no man or woman. Just a few days ago was her eldest son's birthday, he would have been 23...Although the gods punish and reward, Queen Ember thought. She had been just as equally blessed as she was cursed. She had been given Barrett. Before she found him in the desert she thought she was doomed to a lifetime of darkness but he was her light. He brought her joy and reminded her life was worth living. Even if he was a little troublemaker. He drove the servants crazy in the palace. She smiled as she looked around the City of Erini. It was already full of life, a much better use of the land then for war. She wished she could have brought Barrett with her but he was her only living child. She couldn't risk his life in case peace was short lived. She headed into the meeting hall and smiled when she saw King Lars.
This is a much better way to meet you King Lars then across a battlefield.

King Lars greeted Queen Ember with a smile. For so long she had been his enemy, even after five years it seemed to be foreign concept to not draw a sword on her. Her soldiers caused the deaths of his children, just like his soldiers had caused the deaths of hers. He kissed the back of her hand and offered her a seat before sitting across from her at the table.
That it is. How are things in Fotia?

For such a long time Queen Ember hated King Lars and his people so much. She wanted his head on a spike for the deaths of her children and she was sure he would say the same of her. How odd and nice at the same time they could talk to each other with out their armies behind them ready to strike at their command. She curtsied to him before taking a seat.
The people are slowly healing. Much was lost but my people are strong and they are happy that Nero has peace. How are things in Pagos?

About the same.
King Lars replied with a smile. His people were recovering from the war and were happy that Nero had peace. After five years they were finally starting to believe peace would last. He sighed though as he looked down at the table.
Although a day doesn't go by that I don't think of my children or my wife...Our war...Our people weren't the only ones who lost loved ones...
He looked up at her with unshed tears. He wasn't the only who lost his family during the Great War. The death of Queen Ember's family had been his fault.
I am sorry that I caused the deaths of your family.

Queen Ember had tears in her own eyes when King Lars mentioned his family. Their deaths were caused by the army she commanded. She had made him suffer as badly as he had made her.
And I am sorry that I caused the deaths of yours. I think of my husband and children every day...My eldest, Hector...his birthday was only a few days ago...He would have been 23....
Hate was no longer in her heart though for King Lars or Pagos. They had both suffered greatly and knew what it felt to lose their families. She knew the losses would be something they would both carry with them for the rest of their lives.
I believe the gods work in mysterious ways King Lars. We were punished for our war but blessed. If not for our war, I would never have found Barrett. I would not trade him for anything in the world even though I wish he could have known his siblings and my husband.

King Lars sighed sadly hearing that Hector's birthday was only a few days ago.
I'm sorry, I know how hard it was. Lucinda's birthday was last month...
He replied as he thought of his only biological daughter. She had caught the eye of many young suitors before the Great War had started. She had insisted on fighting along side her brothers during the war. Selene reminded him so much of Lucinda. Selene could be very girly but she already wanted to know how to fight. To protect the kingdom she would someday rule. He smiled when Queen Ember mentioned the gods.
I believe you are right, Selene has been a great blessing. She has reminded me that life is worth living. Although I also wish she could have known the rest of her family. She and Lucinda would have been as thick as thieves. Selene reminds me so much of when Lucinda was that age...
He had been thinking of something the whole ride to Eirini and believe now would be a good time to bring it up. He asked.
Queen Ember how long do you think this peace will truly last?

I'm sorry as well.
Queen Ember said as she nodded her head sadly when King Lars mentioned his daughter Lucinda. No one should have to think of this...And she knew they weren't the ones who were experiencing it. Their people knew this pain all to well....Time might heal all wounds but Queen Ember knew the scars were always there. She would try to be happy so Barrett could say he had a good childhood but a part of her would always feel the pain of losing her other children and her husband. She frowned slightly at King Lars' question.
I would hope forever but I'm not that naive. Why do you ask?

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/kinglars.jpg
King Lars would hope it would last forever too but he knew that wasn't possible. There had been many times in Nero's past peace was attempted but it didn't last long. But he knew why, the kings and queens of the past never changed much. It was an endless cycle, well maybe it was time for a change. To break this cycle.
I wish it as well but I'm sure the great kings and queens of the past hoped it as well. We both know how war works in Nero. There is peace for a while then time moves on and people forget the horrors of war and it starts again. I believe it is time for Nero to change...A change not to come right away of course, both our kingdoms are still recovering from the Great War but when our children are ready to take our thrones the war will be a distant memory. A story for the history books just like the wars we learned of. Selene and Barrett I hope would want to keep the peace we started and maybe their children as well but someday in the future what we lost, what our kingdoms lost will be forgotten....This world has had too many wars...
He looked at her in the eye and wondered how she would respond to his suggestion.
What if our children bring a new change to Nero? Rule together a United Nero, as husband and wife.

Queen Ember certain the rulers of the past had hoped for peace to last forever as well. Although she was surprised that King Lars was suggesting an arranged marriage between their only living children. Arranged marriages hadn't been done in Nero for centuries. Although she could see his point, if her son and his daughter were married and ruled Nero together there would be no more wars. People wouldn't suffer like they had with her and King Lars in power. Still it didn't seem right to decide all of Barrett's future for him. He already knew he would become king when her rule was over but didn't he have the right to marry someone he loved? She had married for love. When she was a princess she had married a blacksmith. Surely Barrett should at least get to decide who to love. Besides that he and Selene were both young children. Barrett thought girls had cooties and she was sure Selene probably thought the same of boys right now.
You have valid points but...Don't you want your daughter to marry for love?

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/kinglars.jpg
King Lars didn't truly like the idea of deciding Selene's husband for her. She would be queen when he was gone and he would love for her to find a man she loved with all her heart. Regardless if he was royalty or a servant. Arranged marriages were a thing of the past, King Lars had married for love and told his children to do the same. But the Great War had changed so many things...
In a perfect world yes but we don't live in one. I'd rather that her, her children, her children's children, all my future descendants, your future descendants...All of Nero's people never have to experience what we have ever again. Nothing will ever change if we don't make an effort to change it.

I do want the same for Nero and the future but...
Queen Ember sighed, the idea of Nero never experiencing a war again was a great idea. But she just couldn't decide all of Barrett's future for him. Nor she could she just let King Lars' decide that her son would be Selene's husband. Selene had the right to chose her future husband as much as Queen Ember felt Barrett should have the right to chose his own wife.
The children are too young for us to think of marriage. I tell you what...When they are of age, let's have them meet. Let them decide if they want to be together. If they do, then it's wonderful. But if not, then they still have the right to chose their own spouses.

That sounds like a fair compromise.
King Lars replied with a nod of his head. He wanted Nero to have a better future but he didn't want Selene to be unhappy in a marriage either. Maybe luck would have it and Selene and Barrett would hit it off when they met someday.
I was thinking of visiting the orphanage while I'm here. Would you like to join me?
The orphanage was where he found Selene and he always tried to send some funds to the caretaker. She had a big heart taking care of so many children. Children the Great War orphaned.

Queen Ember was glad that King Lars agreed with her. It would be wonderful if when Selene and Barrett met when they were adults that they fell in love and that Nero would never have to experience the horrors of war again. But if not, well maybe they would at least be friends and want to keep the peace that she and King Lars started. The future was in the hands of their children and all she and King Lars could truly do was try to teach them as best they could how to be rulers. She nodded her head when he asked if she would like to join for a trip to the orphanage.
I think I shall.
It saddened her how many orphans the Great War had left behind. She tried to send funds to help the caretaker as well. She and King Lars headed over to the orphanage and knocked on the door.

Leanne
http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab346/honorangel/leanne.jpg
::After King Lars and Queen Ember called a truce to end the Great War, many orphans came to the orphanage. So many children had no families....Since the birth of civilization on Nero, the orphanage had existed. Before the City of Eirini was created, there was the orphanage. Sure it had been rebuilt many times as building materials got better, but the children of Nero who had no homes always had a place to live and be loved. The current caretaker was named Leanne. She had been the caretaker for many years and was lovingly called Nana by the children. Not all the current children living here were orphaned from Nero's last war though, there were always children that would come who just weren't wanted by their parents. Leanne made a great effort to make sure they all felt loved even if she felt there was never enough time during the day. When King Lars and Queen Ember knocked on the door, Leanne was having children put their laundry away. She didn't even realize someone was at the door but Angel did. She had lived in the orphanage all her life. Leanne had heard a knock on her door and found a baby bassinet at the door. Angel was there, a little baby only a few days old. She called her Angel because of a note left on the bassinet asked that Angel live here and be loved. Leanne had no idea who left Angel but assumed she must have been born to a teenager. Angel wasn't the only child she had found left at her door. Angel was a sweet child, she could easily be adopted if she wanted but Angel never wanted to leave Leanne. She was about four years old and already voiced she didn't want to leave Leanne. This was her home and she wanted to help Leanne with the other children. There was something in Angel's eyesthat told Leanne the child would not leave unless forced to. And if even if Angel was forced to leave she would return. Leanne told prospective parents that Angel was her own granddaughter and not available for adoption. Angel heard the knock on the door and went to answer it.::
Hello! You have a pretty necklace.
::She told Queen Ember, not realizing that she was before royalty. Angel's whole life had been in the new city of Eirini and she had never met the king or queen before. Leanne heard talking as she put the laundry baskets away and wondered who Angel was talking to.::
Angel I have told you never to answer the door for-Oh. Hello your majesties.
::Leanne forgot about correcting Angel about answering the door when she realized King Lars and Queen Ember were visiting the orphanage. She bowed to them and Angel looked at her confused.::
Nana?
Angel this is King Lars of Pagos and Queen Ember of Fotia. You should bow to show respect.
::Leanne told her quietly and Angel bowed but it was a little clumsy.::
Oh! Sorry...
::Angel told the rulers. Leanne smiled at Angel's attempt and said to the rulers.::
It is a pleasure to see you both. Is there anything I could get for? Something to eat or drink?
::Leanne was always a great hostess to any visitors to her orphanage.::

Thank you young lady.
When Leanne came out, she smiled at the caretaker.
It is good to see you as well Miss Leanne. I hope things are well here.
Angel's attempt to bow to them, made her smile. Children were such a joy. When Leanne offered to get them something to eat or drink, Queen Ember shook her head.
That's kind of you but no thank you. Save your food and drinks for you little charges.

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/kinglars.jpg
King Lars smiled at Angel as well, Selene was only about three years older then her. He gave Leanne a smile, she was the one who had pointed out that Selene and him seemed to have a bond when he had visited the orphanage after the war had ended. He had felt lost and came here. It made him realize he wasn't the only one who had lost a lot in the Great War. Many children would never know their parents because of him and Queen Ember...He had felt drawn to Selene but hadn't planned to adopt a child during the visit. Leanne though had suggested it and it was one of the best decisions he had made in a long time.
It is wonderful to see you as always Miss Leanne. No, thank you for your kind offer but I just ate.
Leanne was a fine hostess though and although she didn't always have much money she always took care of guests. She took even better care of the children under her care, King Lars thought. If the children couldn't have their biological families raising them then Miss Leanne was a fine alternative.
Are there any things you are low on?

::Angel grinned that Queen Ember liked her compliment. Leanne hadn't expected either ruler to take her up on her offer but she always offered regardless. She smiled to Queen Ember.::
Things are good. Many of the children have found new homes.
::King Lars and Queen Ember weren't the only ones who had adopted after the end of the Great War which warmed Leanne's heart. All of Nero had suffered greatly but it was starting to recover. Although she missed the children when they were adopted it made her happy they were in new homes.::
Of course I always end up getting more to take care. Not that I mind, I love this place being full of children.
It gives me lots of people to play with.
::Angel told the rulers. Angel loved to play with other children. Leanne chuckled at Angel's comment.::
That is does.
::Leanne said with a smile. Leanne had always loved children, she would be quite lonely if it wasn't for the children. Her husband had died years ago due to illness and they had no biological children themselves. They had been unable to conceive but the orphans filled that void. When King Lars asked about supplies, she replied.::
Well your highness we are always in need of something but the funds you both send every month take care of that.
::She appreciated the kindness of the rulers to help out the orphanage and anyone else who donated money or supplies to them. It helped greatly but Leanne would never be greedy asking for things.::
How is your daughter doing?
::Selene had came to the orphanage before King Lars adopted her but since she was just a toddler she probably didn't remember her short stay here. Leanne had known the instant she saw them together, they were meant to be a family.::
And how is your son?
::She asked as she turned to Queen Ember. She had heard Queen Ember had adopted a son she found in the desert. Children were such a happy topic to talk about anyway. After what the planet had been through the last few years, it was better to talk about happy topics.::

I'm glad they did, too many were left without homes...
If the Great War taught King Lars anything, it was to not be as selfish. He was realizing how much the war had cost everyone in the last few years. It saddened him to think how many children were sent to Leanne because of the war. He smiled when Angel said she liked having kids to play with though.
You can never have too many friends.
Even if Leanne was in need of more things, she'd never say. She always a kind woman and grateful for what she was given. Before the war, King Lars sent some funds but he never thought much of the orphanage. Providing some resources to the orphanage was an old tradition in Pagos and he was just continuing it. After the war though...King Lars realized how important this place was and increased what he sent each month. If not for Leanne, he wouldn't have Selene. When she asked about Selene, he replied.
Thank you for asking. She's doing very well...
He told Leanne how Selene's studies were going and how the servants always complimented that she was growing up to be a fine princess. She was kind to the servants and was very interested in learning how to someday be a queen. When he talked about Selene, he talked as a proud father. He gave Leanne a smile.

It saddened Queen Ember to think how many orphans the Great War left behind but at least under Leanne's loving care, they were in good hands. She nodded her head with a smile at what King Lars told Angel.
He's right.
Friends were important and she only wished she had tried to be King Lars friend sooner, before they had lost their families. Well all they could do now was teach their children not to make the same mistake. She listened with a smile as he talked about Selene, she could tell the king loved his adopted daughter. He loved her just as much as she loved Barrett. When Leanne asked about him, she replied.
He's doing good although my servants wouldn't say he's always a proper prince. Barrett's a little bit of a troublemaker but he keeps me feeling young.
Although she often had hard a time staying mad at him. He was smart though and when he paid attention to his studies he did well in them. She had no doubt he would become a good king when she was gone. He would just rather play then learn things most of the time.

::Leanne nodded her head in agreement of King Lars and Queen Ember's advice that one could never have too many friends. Angel liked having friends, it meant there were lots of kids to play games with. Leanne was happy to hear that Selene was doing good, although she didn't doubt that King Lars was taking good care of her. She gave him a smile when he said he'd be forever grateful for her suggestion.::
You're welcome your highness but I was just pointing out the obvious. I could tell from the way you two interacted she was meant to be your daughter.
::She chuckled when Queen Ember said that Barrett was a troublemaker.::
Boys tend to be more then girls but I'm sure he'll be a fine king someday with you raising him.
::She chatted with the king and queen a little longer when she heard the bell chime. Angel tugged at the skirt of Leanne's dress.::
We need to start supper Nana.
::Leanne had a daily schedule of things that were done at certain times and Angel was her little helper, reminding her what needed to be done when. The structure helped the children, gave them a sense of how households worked. Even if royalty were her guests, Leanne still liked to keep things on schedule.::
Yes you're right my dear. Please stay as long as you two would like.
::She would never kick out any guest at her orphanage and especially not the rulers of Nero. Although Angel was too young to help with most of the cooking she liked to get the ingredients out while Leanne and the other children prepared the meals. Other children would help set the table.::

I should probably take my leave, I want to visit the stores before they close.
He did want to get something for Selene and he planned to leave at daybreak tomorrow morning so he could head home.

Thank you Miss Leanne, I'm sure he will be. He's a quick study when we can get his attention.
Although Barrett was only nine years old so playing was far more fun then studies. He reminded Queen Ember of how her other boys acted at the age. All her sons had been active children. When King Lars said he would be taking his leave to visit the stores, she said.
I'm sure I'll see you at the villa before I head home. I think I'm going to spend a little more time here.
The villa had been built with many rooms for both Queen Ember and King Lars to stay in when they were in Eirini. It wasn't nearly as big as either of their palaces but to most people it would be considered a mansion. Queen Ember always sent funds to the orphanage, it was a tradition of the rulers of Nero to help it out. Although she had been far too busy most of her life to visit it, sending funds or supplies was an afterthought. She might as well see firsthand what kind of stuff Leanne needed even if she was too humble to ask for anything.

We would be honored to have you join us for supper your majesty. I'll warn you now it's nothing fancy.
But it's really good!
::Angel told the queen, she enjoyed her Nana's cooking very much. The children were excited to have a real queen joining them for supper. They were polite but asked her many questions and answered any questions she asked them. Leanne was proud how well behaved they were and that the children wanted to show Queen Ember how much they helped her around the orphanage. The dishes were put away and the bell chimed to indicate it was almost time for bed.::
Story time!
::Angel said and the children gathered around the fireplace. Angel went to grab the book that was about the legend of the City of Airee and asked Queen Ember.::
Would you read it to us?
::The other kids thought it would be cool if the queen read to them. Usually Leanne did and she quickly said.::

I will Miss Leanne.
Although Selene didn't remember her time at the orphanage she knew of Leanne. King Lars had told her about the kind woman who made sure they became a family. He nodded his head to Queen Ember when she said she was going to spend more time with the orphans.
Have fun.
He told her and after saying good bye to everyone headed off to the marketplace. The people there all greeted him and he was happy to see how well commerce and trade were doing in Eirini. Pagos and Fotia were also trading goods back and forth. He saw many toys and knew he could easily spoil rotten Selene if he wasn't careful. She was a princess and that alone made her spoiled since she was growing up as royalty. He tried hard though to make sure she realized other people were not as well off as they were. He found her a new doll and some new clothes for it and the dolls she already had. The merchants wanted to just give him the stuff for free but he insisted on paying for them. He was king and could easily afford to pay what they asked although he was certain they still offered him a great discount as well. He took his purchases back to the villa and headed to his wing of it. He wanted to get a good night sleep so he could return to Pagos early. He did hope Queen Ember would consider his idea of an arranged marriage between their children when they were older. He truly believed it would be in the best interests of all of Nero.

Queen Ember told King Lars goodbye and smiled at Leanne.
I am honored to be joining you all Miss Leanne.
She smiled when Angel said the cooking was very good even if wasn't fancy.
I am sure it. And don't worry Miss Leanne, I've had so called fancy food that has tasted awful.
She told the woman with a wink and enjoyed watching at how the children all were so helpful with preparing supper. As soon as she tasted the food, she told Angel.
You are very wise for your age little Angel, this is very good.
She enjoyed the orphans' company as much as they seemed to enjoy hers. She answered all their eager questions and asked questions of her own. Leanne was raising them to become very good members of society. Although Queen Ember did take mental notes of what type of supplies she should start sending Leanne to help her out. When Angel asked if she would read them a story before they went to bed, she replied.
Well your Nana is right I should get going, I have a long trip home...However, I think I have enough time to read one chapter of the story.
That seemed to please the kids very well and she read a chapter out of the book. The City of Airee...She remembered that story from when she was young girl. The city in the air that was a perfect place to live. Not effected by the wars of Fotia and Pagos but quiet, hard working people who honored their Royal Family and the gods. After reading a chapter like she promised, Queen Ember told the children to have pleasant dreams and said to Leanne.
Thank you for having me, take care Miss Leanne and if you need anything just ask.

::Angel was proud of the compliment Queen Ember gave her. Leanne wondered if the queen was being truthful or just too polite to say anything else about her food. The kids never complained though but Leanne never thought of herself as a great cook. She smiled when Queen Ember offered to read a story to them.::
Well if you insist.
::Queen Ember was a kind woman, Leanne thought. She took the time to talk to the children and seemed to enjoy them. She was surely a good mother. Leanne sat down on the sofa as the queen read to them. The story about the City of Airee was popular book with the children. After the story was over she told the children it was time for bed. They didn't want to go but knew they had to. If they didn't get their rest they wouldn't grow up to be big and strong. They told the queen good night and headed off to bed. Leanne walked Queen Ember to the door and told her with a smile.::
Thank you for spending time with us, the children in enjoyed it greatly. Take care and have a safe travel home.
::After she and Queen Ember said their goodbyes, Leanne headed off to bed to get some sleep herself.::

Queen Ember had enjoyed her time with the orphans and would have stayed longer but they needed their rest just like she needed to get some before she headed home to Fotia. She smiled to Leanne.
You're welcome, I enjoyed it. You take care as well.
She told the other woman goodbye and headed back to the villa to get some sleep. The next morning she was wishing King Lars a safe travel home back to Pagos.
It is good to see you on friendly terms.

Yes it is.
He was glad that finally after all the years and battles that they were friends now. If only they had stopped the Great War sooner...Well the past could not be changed. All they could hope for was that the future didn't repeat the past.
You will consider my suggestion for the future, yes?

I will but I do think our children should have the right to consider that part of their futures themselves.
Although Nero would surely benefit from a united crown, she would never force Barrett to marry anyone. If he married, she wanted him to marry someone he loved. Marriage was meant to be wonderful thing not an obligation.

You're right they do. That's why we'll let them decide when they are older.
King Lars said with a nod of his head to Queen Ember. He wanted what was best for Nero but he also wanted Selene to be happy. He wouldn't want her to marry someone she didn't love. The best move was to let Selene and Barrett decide what they wanted when they were adults. He told Queen Ember goodbye and headed back home for Pagos.

Queen Ember
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/queenember.jpg
Queen Ember was glad that King Lars agreed with her. She wanted peace in Nero but their children also deserved the right to be happy. Unlike other childre,n they didn't get to decide what they wanted to be when they grew up. That part of their future was already decided but at least if Barrett and Selene got married it would be for love. She told King Lars goodbye and headed to the market to find a present for Barrett. She found him some new wooden figurines for his little army he liked to play with. She then headed for home. Although she liked visiting Eirini, Fotia was her home. She had lived there all her life and was glad to be back. When she and her guards arrived back in the palace they were greeted by servants and her royal advisor Harod. His son Jared as a few years older then Barrett.
How has Barrett been since I was gone?
Prince Barrett has been his usual self.
Harod replied which cause Queen Ember to laugh as they entered the palace. She looked around and said.
Well the palace is still standing, that is a good sign. Where is he?
Although she hadn't been away very long, she had missed her son.
He's been playing quietly.
Quietly? He's only quiet when he's asleep. He's probably gotten into something.
Harod hadn't thought of that and followed the queen as she looked for Barrett. She called out his name and suddenly Barrett appeared and hugged her.
Mother your home!
Hello dear. What have you been up to?
Just playing.
With what?
Toys.
Barrett replied although Queen Ember could tell he was trying to hide something from her. He was only nine after all and she knew his tricks.
I see. Well I'm going to change and then you can tell me what else you've done.
Umm...you don't want to head that way.
Barrett said grabbing his mother's hand.
Why?
Before Barrett could think of a reason why she couldn't go down that hallway, Lila ran down the hallway. She was Jared's dog but Barrett liked to play with her too. She was covered in floor and got it all over the palace as she ran.
Jared!
Harod called out in anger at the mess his son's dog was making. Jared popped his head out of his room where he was studying.
What?
Why is Lila covered in flour?!
I don't know Prince Barrett was playing with her. I've been studying like you told me to.
Barrett made a face when Jared told his father that he had been playing Lila. Harod and Queen Ember turned to him.
So why is she covered in flour?
Umm...I was making it snow for my army and Lila decided she wanted to play too.
Queen Ember and Harod shook their heads as they headed down the hallway where Barrett had been playing and saw all the flour all over the floor, the walls, and his toys.
I see. Well you'll be busy cleaning your snow up.
Why?
Because you made the mess.
But it's the servants job to clean up stuff.
It's not their job to clean up messes that didn't need to be made. If you make them do that they won't to do anything else you ask them. People won't serve a mean king who makes their lives harder. Besides if you clean it up, then I'll give your present.
Barrett didn't want people to think he was going to be a mean king but cleaning wasn't fun so he was going to try to talk his way out of cleaning until his mother said she had brought him a present.
I have a present!?
Only if this gets cleaned rather quickly. Oh and Lila will need a bath.
She didn't need to tell Barrett twice, he quickly started clean up the mess he had made in the hallway and give Jared's dog a bath. He was glad he had done it since he liked the figurines for his army.

King Lars
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/kinglars.jpg
When King Lars returned to his castle in Pagos, he was greeted by his royal advisor named Niko. Niko was an older man and was getting ready to retire. He had been spending a lot of his time training a young man named Niles to take over for him.
What did Queen Ember think of the arrangement?
She's open to the idea as long as Selene and Prince Barrett meet and decide for themselves when they are older.
Niko nodded his head. Glad that at least Queen Ember hadn't rejected to the idea all together. He filled King Lars in what he missed and told him that Selene was playing in her room with her dolls. He headed there to see his little girl and smiled when he saw her.
Father! I missed you!
Selene told him in excitement and hugged him. He hugged her back and was glad to be home. Eirini was a nice place to visit but Pagos was his home.
I missed you too sweetie. Have you been behaving yourself?
Of course.
Selene told him with a grin.
Good girl. Here.
He smiled back and handed her presents. She was excited to see the new doll and clothes and thanked him. He played with her a little before he had to get to his duties. Selene saw Luca in the hallway with her mother. Luca was only about a year older then Selene and she sometimes played with her. Luca was already being taught by her mother the duties of a servant in the castle. She overheard Luca's mother ask what she wanted do on her birthday tomorrow. Selene didn't even realize it was almost time for Luca's birthday and she looked down at her new doll and got an idea. She walked into her father's office and asked him.
Father do we have wrapping paper?
Somewhere I'm sure. Why do you ask Selene?
King Lars asked as he looked up from the paperwork about a possible law that was on his desk. He always gave Selene his full attention when she wanted to talk.
Because tomorrow is Luca's birthday I want to give her this doll for a present.
Selene said holding up the doll he had just given her.
But I just gave that to you.
I know but I have more dolls then Luca and I think she'll like this one because they both have brown hair. Besides didn't you tell me that a queen should be kind to her people. Well wouldn't giving Luca a nice new doll for her birthday be a kind thing to do?
King Lars smiled at Selene.
Yes it would be.
He helped her pick out fine wrapping paper for the doll and was proud of Selene when she gave it Luca the next day on her birthday. Luca was still young enough to enjoy playing with dolls and loved it. Luca's mother smiled and told the king quietly.
Thank you King Lars.
Oh don't thank me, it was all Selene's idea.
Luca's mother was surprised to hear that because most seven year olds weren't always concerned about others' happiness. She smiled at Selene and told her.
Thank you Princess Selene.
Luca's mother quickly reminded Luca to tell the princess and the king for her present.
Yes thank you!
You're welcome.
Selene replied with a smile. It made her feel good to make someone else happy on a special day. The doll would be more loved by Luca then her anyway. Selene had plenty of toys.

King Lars
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/kinglars.jpg
Over the next ten years, Selene was growing up to be a lovely lady and catching the eye of many young men in the Kingdom of Pagos. She wasn't that interested in the suitors though and was more focused on making sure she would become a good queen. At the age of seventeen she had outgrown her love dolls but she liked to ice skate and was rather good at it. She was practicing ice skating while her father and Niko watched.
If things do not work with Prince Barrett, you won't have any issues finding a suitable husband for the princess.
Yes I know but hopefully they'll like each other.
King Lars knew many young men were interested in his daughter but when he was thinking of the future of Nero, he hoped that Selene and Barrett would fall in love and marry. Nero would be a much better place for everyone if the kingdoms were united.
When do you and Queen Ember plan for them to meet?
Once the Solstice festivals are over.
Pagos celebrated the Winter Solstice the same time as Fotia celebrated the Summer Solstice. Both festivals were big celebrations and the citizens looked forward to them every year. Selene was going to ice skate at the Pagos' festival tomorrow. Niko agreed that it sounded like a good time for Selene and Barrett to meet. They weren't little kids anymore. In fact, Niko was going to retire once the Winter Solstice was over and then Niles would be the head royal advisor. When Selene was done with her routine, she smiled at her father and Niles as they clapped. The next day Selene went out onto the ice to ice skate for the kingdom. No one could figure out what happened. Others had skated on the ice before her and the ice had been safe. Plus Selene was had been skating for years, so she knew what she was doing. She took to the ice and at first it was fine. Then suddenly without warning Selene fell through the ice. The people in the stands gasped in horror and King Lars yelled his daughter's name and rushed towards the ice with the guards.
King Lars! No! You could fall in too!
Niles said as he grabbed the king's arm and tried to stop him from going out onto the ice. It wasn't safe.
But she needs me!
King Lars said and pushed Niles out of his way and got to Selene's side as two of the guards pulled her out of the water. He yelled for a doctor who tried to wake her up but it was no use. The princess had fallen into a coma.

Queen Ember
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/queenember.jpg
Over the next ten years Barrett's more trouble making tendencies seemed to fade once girls caught his eye. He was nineteen years old loved chatting with the pretty ones and he liked to impress them. Although the being a prince was impressive to most girls, he loved showing off his swordsmanship skills and how well he could ride a camel. He never wanted to be considered a peacock prince which Queen Ember doubted anyone would. She and Harod were watching Barrett race his camel around the stables.
So you and King Lars are finally going to let them meet?
Yes, after the Solstice festivals have ended. I believe he and Princess Selene are old enough now.
Do you think they'll like each other?
Hopefully they'll at least like each other enough to be friends and continue the peace treaty after King Lars and I are gone.
Harod nodded his head in understanding and then chuckled.
Well if a marriage between them isn't in the books, you shouldn't have any issues finding Prince Barrett a wife.
They could see Barrett waving at some servant girls who were passing by and Queen Ember laughed with Harod.
No I won't.
Although it would be wonderful if things worked out between him and Selene. She believed King Lars was right that Nero would be a better place. But still she wanted Barrett to marry for love not because he felt he had. The next day there was the annual camel race at the Summer Solstice. Many of Fotia's soldiers were in it as was Barrett. Barrett might be the prince but he was also an accomplished rider. He also had a quite a few female fans cheering for him to win. Queen Ember watched the race and was, of course, cheering for her son as well. The race started out normally. Barrett was even showing off a little for the crowd and then suddenly Barrett was thrown from his camel and hit his head. Queen Ember stood up instantly from her place in the stands.
Barrett! Jared get the doctor!
Queen Ember ordered and Jared ran off to find the doctor in the crowd as Queen Ember rushed to her son's side with Harod following her. The doctor was too late to do anything though. The prince had fallen into a coma.

Leanne
http://i878.photobucket.com/albums/ab346/honorangel/leanne.jpg
::Over the next ten years many kids came and went through the doors of Leanne's orphanage but Angel was always there. She was fourteen and slowly over the last decade Leanne had been giving her more responsibility. Teaching Angel how to run things, so when Leanne passed away Angel could take over as the next caretaker. Angel was a natural at it, like she was meant to take care of people. Leanne knew that Angel had very nurturing personality. She was more mature then most kids her age and often seemed wiser then her age. When Fotia had the Summer Solstice and Pagos had the Winter Solstice, the City of Eirini would throw a festival too. Since the founders of Eirini were people from both Fotia and Pagos, the festival held here was a combination of both. Although instead of ice skating there was dancing and people raced horses instead of camels. Bad news always seemed to travel faster then good news. When Angel returned with the kids her age after a night of dancing, Leanne greeted with a sad face.::
Nana what's wrong?
::Angel asked, Leanne was rarely ever this sad.::
I've received some bad news...
::Leanne replied and told her and the other kids what had happened to Prince Barrett and Princess Selene. Angel hugged Leanne, she knew Leanne was friends with King Lars and Queen Ember and felt bad for the rulers. Everyone knew the story of the Great War even if they were too young to remember it or in her case, not born yet. How horrible that each ruler lost their entire families in the war and then now their adoptive children were in comas. Also ironic in a way that the accidents happened on the same day. No one felt like celebrating anything now. The next day at the temple in Eirini, people would say prayers to the gods that the prince and princess would wake up soon. Leanne insisted the children went to say some prayers too. Angel had just left the temple when she sw a drunk man with a bottle of ale moaning and groaning to anyone who would listen. Most people were just ignoring him but Angel didn't.::
Ridiculous! Praying to gods! There isn't any!
How do you know that?
Because if there were "gods" then they wouldn't have allowed the Great War to happen!
Humans are the ones who decided to fight in that war.
Oh? You believe in them don't you? Well let me tell you something girl there isn't any or if there is then the gods are cruel.
I don't think all of them are cruel. They're like us. Some are good, some are bad.
Really?! Like us? Yeah right. Well if they ain't so cruel then why do people die? Why are there are orphans? Why do the soldiers have to arrest people? Why don't they stop all the bad things?
Dying is part of life. And we make our own decisions how to live. Good or bad.
::The man started to laugh and draw the attention of other people around the temple.::
Are you in priestess training? Because you sure sound like one! Maybe you're right and there are gods. If so, I know why the prince and princess fell into comas. The gods are punishing their parents for the Great War.
Or what happened to them was just accidents-
On the same day!? Not bloody likely. They are punishing King Lars and Queen Ember for the war that killed my brother, his son, her husband....
::He started pointing around at all the people gathered. Leanne came out of the temple and took a hold of Angel's hand. She could tell the girl was still going to argue with the man but knew it would do no good. The man was drunk and just rambling on and on.::
Come Angel, leave him to his ale.
::Angel nodded her head and followed Leanne. Once they were away from the drunk, Leanne asked.::
When people are drunk they don't listen to reason, why didn't you just walk away?
I don't know...I just felt...No, I know he was wrong about the gods.
::Angel said with a shrug. She wasn't overly religious but she felt the need to defend them regardless. She knew deep down that he was wrong in his viewpoint and she was right.::
I see...
::There was something in Angel's voice that made Leanne think Angel did know what she was talking about. She smiled at Angel.::
Next time find a sober person to debate the gods with, okay?
Okay.
::Angel replied with a smile. They got the other children and went shopping for groceries before heading back to the orphanage.::

Queen Ember
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/queenember.jpg
In the past seven years, peace remained in Nero but things were not as joyful. After her son fell into his coma, Queen Ember was depressed. She was still considered a good queen but she often wondered if it was her own actions in the Great War that caused her son to fall into a coma. That the gods were still punishing her. Everyday she checked on Barrett and everyday was the same. He was asleep and there were no signs of him waking up. After her daily visit, she saw Jared who asked.
Any change your highness?
No, he's the same as he has been since the accident. So are you excited about becoming the head Royal Advisor? It is official next week.
Queen Ember asked wanting to get mind of something else other then how she failed again as a mother to keep one of her children safe. Jared nodded his head.
Yes, although it'll take me a while to remember my father is retired.
It'll probably take me a while too....Is he sure he doesn't want a party?
After Barrett's accident Queen Ember wasn't much for throwing parties anymore but Harod had been a loyal advisor and a great friend. She would throw one for him if he wanted. Jared shook his head.
Nah, you know he doesn't like to draw attention to himself.
That is true.
Queen Ember replied with a small smile. Harod was never one to be the center of attention. She and Jared headed to the throne room to discuss things that were happening in Fotia that needed her attention.

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/kinglars.jpg
King Lars was as equally depressed as Queen Ember was. He thought if the gods did exist they were cruel. To have his children back he would have done anything. Selene was the one thing he had left and now she was in a coma. Sleeping every since the accident. He had great doctors all across Nero examine her but they couldn't explain it. Still a part of him didn't give up the hope that someday she'd wake up. After checking on Selene, he found Niles. Niles could tell from his face that the princess was still asleep.
It's that time of the month again isn't it?
Amazing how fast time seem to go and how slow at the same time King Lars thought. Niles nodded his head.
Yes, time to send supplies to Miss Leanne. Who would you like to have deliver the supplies?
Send Milson and Nevek.
Will do Sire.
Niles bowed to King Lars and went to find the two soliders. Nevek grinned at the news he'd get to go to Eirini. He was usually stuck with boring guard duty.

::Milson was proud to be a knight of the army of Pagos. He came from a family of soldiers, his father had fought and died in the Great War. He was just a very small boy when his father was killed and the only memories he had of his father were what his mother and extended family told him. Yet he believed his mother when she said his father would be proud that he was following his footsteps. Guard duty was common duty for the younger knights but not that exciting either. So when he heard that he was going with Nevek to bring Miss Leanne supplies for her orphanage, Milson was excited. It would be a nice change of pace.::

Yes it will be.
Nevek was excited about not having to do guard duty for a few days. It could get very boring. With peace on Nero, the knights were more just watchers and maybe arresting the occasional criminal every so often. He and Milson would be leaving for Eirini tomorrow, which gave Nevek the night to tell his girlfriend Bree about his new assignment. After he was relieved of duty for the night, he headed into the city to find her. He couldn't help but overhear a high priest talking.
I tell you the gods will show themselves in the flesh!
The man was claiming he knew the will of the gods and had a crowd of people paying attention to him. Nevek crossed his arms as he asked.
How do you know that?
Because an eagle flew by with a-
Bird signs? You're claiming you know this based on bird signs?
Nevek asked and started to chuckle. The high priest shook his finger at him.
Don't you dare mock me! You have no idea what-
Maybe not but I have better things to do then claim a bird means the gods are going to appear. So what does a dog licking himself mean? That the gods have decided to make it snow again?
A couple people started to laugh and the high priest got angry.

Bree shrugged a little as she walked him towards her house.
I don't know...Maybe. The gods work in mysterious ways, so how do you know what he is saying isn't true?
Bree was actually very interested in the temple and how normal people could talk to the gods and figure out what they wanted them to do. She wanted to help make Nero a better place to live. Knights, like Nevek, helped keep the world safe. But Bree thought that Priests and Priestesses could help with that, helping average people live their ways so not to anger the gods.

Nevek replied, Bree was always more religious them him. He believed there were gods but he didn't really believe that they had as big of an impact on the world as the priests made people think.
Of course, the oath of Pagos is to honor the gods, love your woman, and defend the kingdom. I believe in them but I think if they really had something they wanted to say, they wouldn't use bird signs.
He shrugged because he didn't feel like getting into a debate about the gods with her. Especially when he was leaving for Eirini tomorrow morning. He finally realized they were heading to her house. Nevek stopped and pulled Bree into his arms.
Speaking of the second part of the oath...We'll need to take care of that tonight. King Lars assigned me to go with Milson to take supplies to Miss Leanne in Eirini, so I'll be gone for a little while.

She didn't think she and Nevek would agree on the topic and decided to just drop it. When he said he was leaving for Eirini to drop off supplies at the orphanage, she told him with a smile.

There were still thieves, marauders, and barbarians running around. They could easily decide to attack a supply wagon. He greeted Milson and asked him as they headed south to Eirini.

Well maybe someday, his mother claimed there was someone out there for every one. The next morning he was eager to go to Eirini. When Nevek asked if he had ever been there, Milson replied.::

Nevek agreed with Milson that it would be nice to visit another part of Nero. The trip to Eirini was uneventful which was good. They wouldn't to risk any of the supplies that the orphanage needed. Nevek and Milson talked on the trip and by mid day they had reached the city. Following directions given to them by knights who had dropped off supplies in the past, they arrived the orphanage. Nevek jumped down from the wagon and stretched his arms. His body felt a little stiff from sitting too long.
All right let's bring some joy to some kids.
Nevek told Milson as he headed up to the door to knock on it.

::Milson enjoyed talking with Nevek during the trip to Eirini. He was excited about bringing the supplies to the orphanage. He was glad the ride was over because his legs felt tired. He knew the kids would like some of the stuff they brought. There were new toys and clothes in the wagon. Over the last couple of years Angel had taken more and more control of the orphanage. Leanne was getting older and more prone to illnesses. She was still alive but she was often in bed, Angel would divide her time in between taking care of the kids and her nana. Angel had taken her some soup to eat when one of the children told her there was a knock on the door. Angel told Leanne she would be back and went to get it. She smiled when she saw two knights from Pagos and the wagon behind them.::
Hello. Did you bring some supplies for us?
::She asked. Milson had expected Leanne to answer the door not a pretty young woman. He stood there speechless and probably acting like he was deaf and or dumb. He was too taken in by Angel's beauty to say anything. Angel was a little confused at his reaction and gave Nevek a questioning look.::

Yes we did Miss.
Nevek told Angel and chuckled a little seeing Milson's reaction to her. It was pretty clear to Nevek that Milson thought Angel was pretty. He slapped his friend's shoulder.
Come on buddy, let's get this stuff inside for her.
As they started to unload the wagon, Nevek whispered.
You act like you've never seen a pretty girl before.

Never one as pretty as her....

Nevek nodded his head in understanding. Angel was pretty, but to Nevek, not as pretty as Bree. He thought Bree was the prettiest girl in the world. He was deeply in love with Bree but he could still look at other girls. Just not touch. He smirked at Milson.
That she is, you should get to know her better.
Nevek told him and in case Milson was too tongued tied to talk to Angel, Nevek offered up nice comments about Milson to Angel to encourage her to be interested in him. The whole time the two men brought supplies in Nevek was acting like a matchmaker.

::Milson just shook his head at Nevek's comment. He figured the other man was just teasing him but honestly he wouldn't mind getting to know Angel better. But a girl like that could have any guy she wanted and he doubted she'd be interested in him. That was if she didn't have a boyfriend already, he found it hard to believe she was single. Especially when he found out she was a nice as she was pretty. Helping her nana take care of the orphans. Although he was a little embarrassed that Nevek seemed to be trying to set him up with Angel, although once he started opening up, he realized that he and Angel seemed to have a lot in common. Angel was usually shy around men but she opened up pretty quickly to Milson. She thought he was a nice guy and didn't really mind Nevek's obvious efforts at match making. If he hadn't been attempting it, she and Milson would have probably just been polite to each other. The kids were excited at the new clothes and toys that Milson and Nevek brought with them. They didn't care much for the others supplies but Angel appreciated them and knew if Leanne wasn't ill, she would as well.::
It's so nice of you to bring all this stuff.
Well King Lars wanted to make sure the kids are well taken care of.
He does, he's very kind. You two should stay for dinner.
::The kids were already playing with their new toys when Angel told the soldiers.::
Oh we shouldn't impose...
::Milson replied although the idea of spending more time with Angel was very tempting. She smiled at him.::
You aren't imposing. You came all this way, you should get something to eat before heading back.
::She meant it as being nice but she was also looking for an excuse for Milson to stay longer. Milson smiled back.::
You're right, we shouldn't ride back on an empty stomach.
::Angel nodded her head and was glad that Milson and Nevek would stay a little longer. The kids were talking their ears off and asking questions about what it was like to be a knight while she took the oldest children to prepare a meal.::
It's nothing fancy.
::Angel said, she hadn't expected company and with so many mouths to feed, "fancy" meals were reserved for only special occasions.::
Well it tastes great.
::Milson replied with a smile as he began to eat.::

Nevek was glad to see his match making seemed to be working. If Bree could see him, she'd probably tease him. Especially since she liked to play matchmaker with her friends and he always got annoyed by it. Still he could see that Milson and Angel were starting to like each other and decided to encourage it. Although the meal wasn't "fancy" it was very good and Nevek told Angel that.
You know Milson it's getting to late for us to head back to Pagos tonight. We should spend the night here and maybe we could get a tour of the city. You see Miss Angel I haven't been here since I was a child and Milson doesn't remember ever visiting Eirini. So a tour from a local resident would be great if you would so oblige.
Nevek told her with a smile, although he was suggesting the tour so she and Milson could spend time together. His only plan was to find a present for Bree and then head to the hotel to get some sleep.

Well I could but the kids-
Oh I could watch the kids deary.
::Said Leanne as she walked into the room. Angel got up from the table and walked over to her. Upset that she was out of bed when she was supposed to be resting.::
But Nana you're ill.
I'm feeling better.
::Leanne assured her and told Milson and Nevek hello and thanked them for the new supplies. She whispered to Angel.::
You do so much for everyone else, do something for yourself. I can tell you like that one knight very much and he seems to like you.
::Angel blushed a little and told Nevek and Milson.::
After supper I'll take you two around the city.
That's great.

He told Angel when she said she show them around. After supper Nevek made sure Angel and Milson were walking close together. He paid attention to what she told them about Eirini but after seeing the shops and finding a necklace for Bree, he yawned loudly.
Sorry I didn't realize how tired I was from the trip, you two continue on without me. I'm going to head to the inn to get some sleep. Don't worry Milson, I'll make sure they reserve a room for you too.
He told his friend with a wink, so Milson wouldn't think he needed to hurry away from Angel. He told Angel goodnight and thanked her for the tour before heading to the inn.

::Leanne gave Nevek a wink when she sent Angel out the door with them. She felt it was about time Angel met a nice guy. She always claimed she was far too busy to date but Leanne didn't want her to become an old maid. Angel gave them a tour of the city, telling them the history of what she knew about different buildings. When Nevek said he was tired and heading to the inn for sleep, she and Milson told him good night. They honestly didn't mind him giving them some time alone.::
So do you want to get some sleep as well or do you want to continue the tour?
Why continue the tour of course.
::Milson told her with a grin which caused Angel to blush a little.::
I was hoping you'd say that.
Oh? And why is that?
Because I've been enjoying your company.
Well I've been enjoying yours as well.
::Milson replied. They stayed out late talking and exploring the city. Both lost track of time. Both also felt like they had always known each other even though they just met today. Neither had ever felt so comfortable around someone who was supposed to be a stranger before. An owl hooted nearby which caused Angel to jump a little.::
I didn't realize how late it was getting.
Me neither but being with you is a good way to kill time.
I think the same.
::Angel said with a smile, she couldn't stop smiling tonight. Milson was glad to hear it. They started to head back to the orphanage. Although it was late, there was still a flower vendor out on the streets. Milson walked over and bought Angel a bouquet. She thought they were very pretty and that they smelled good. They were going to go right on the mantle above the fireplace in the orphanage.::
Thank you, I love them.
You're welcome. I've got to get pretty flowers for a pretty lady.
::When they reached the orphanage's door, Angel asked.::
So will I ever see you again?
I'm going to try to come back a lot.
Good, I'd like that.
::Angel told Milson with a smile, not wanting to head inside yet. Milson leaned down and kissed her good night before finding that Nevek had kept his promise of reserving a room for him at the inn. The next morning he knew he'd be asking King Lars to constantly assign him to taking supplies to the orphanage. He also promised Angel he'd write to her. They told each other bye and as Milson and Nevek headed back to Pagos, Milson said to his friend.::
So...What am I going to owe you for setting me up with Angel?

Even before Milson was a granted an audience with King Lars, Nevek had made sure anyone with some authority in the castle knew that Milson was just the man for the job of sending supplies to the orphanage. King Lars told Milson.
That is good you've built a rapport with them. Perhaps Miss Leanne will be willing to tell you more of the things she needs, since she's always too nice to be demanding.
King Lars agreed to allow Milson to be in charge of taking supplies to the orphanage every month. Although Milson didn't admit it himself, the king did hear that Milson fancied Leanne's granddaughter. Which he thought was nice. Since she was raised by Leanne, he was sure Angel grew up to be fine young woman.

I'm back and I missed you...
He gave her a kiss and in doing so slipped the necklace he had bought her in Eirini around her neck.
...So much in fact, I had to bring you this.
He told her. The necklace he bought Bree was a pendant with a design similar to a yin and yang. Although instead of black and white colors, the yin side was blue for Pagos and the yang side was red for Fotia.

Bree had missed Nevek when he was gone. She was used to him being assigned guard duty around the castle and that she could see him often.

She replied with a smile and returned his kiss. She felt Nevek put something around her neck and when saw it was a beautiful necklace, she told him.
Oh Nevek! It's so beautiful, thank you.
She took his arm and led him into the sitting room so he could tell her about his trip to Eirini. On the table in front of the sofa there were some papers about joining the local temple. Bree had been debating learning more about the temple and what priests and priestesses did for the kingdom. Although she wasn't sure how deeply involved she wanted to get. Priests and priestesses were supposed to be single and celibate and she was in a committed relationship with Nevek since they had met as teenagers in school.

Bree had worked in a bakery since she was finished school. She was good at the job and liked the people but it didn't feel like something she could for the rest of her life. ::Milson was thrilled when King Lars said he could continue on the supply trips. He couldn't wait to see Angel again. During their time apart, Angel and Milson would write each other constantly, the carrier hawks were very busy birds flying back and forth between Pagos and Eirini. If the couple was lucky, they saw each other maybe a few days out of the month. Usually weeks would pass between visits. It was a little hard but they made it work. Milson was busy protecting the kingdom and Angel was busy taking care of the children. A few months after they started dating, Leanne passed away. Angel was heartbroken, Leanne had been a mother to her and she looked up to her. Although the last time Angel had talked to Leanne before she died, Leanne made the comment she had been alive longer then she should be. Angel didn't know what she meant by that, although Leanne spent more time alone as Angel divided her time with the kids and Milson. A part of her felt she had neglected her grandmother and that's why she had died. Although Milson told her it wasn't her fault. Leanne had been sick a long time and there was nothing she could have done. At least she was at peace and not sick anymore. Plus she was reunited her with her late husband and that was a good thing. Eventually Angel comforted herself with that but she still missed Leanne and tried her best make sure Leanne would be proud of how she was running the orphanage now. After they had been dating long distance for almost three years, Milson took Angel to the watchtower in Eirini on a visit. The tower was so tall, in distance the sands of Fotia and the mountains of Pagos could be see in different directions.::
Angel? Can I ask you something?
::Milson asked and Angel nodded her head.::
Sure. You can ask me anything.
I was hoping you'd say that...
::Milson replied and got down on one knee and took a hold of her hand.::
Angel you are everything I've ever wanted and more. Will you marry me?
Yes!
::Angel grinned and wrapped her around Milson while he was still on his knees. He grinned back and kissed her. Angel and Milson agreed they didn't need to rush the wedding. They'd take their time planning it and just enjoy being engaged for a while. They'd slowly started to plan stuff during their time together. Plus there was the fact one of them would have to make a big move. Either Angel would have to leave the orphanage and move to Pagos to be a soldier's wife or Milson would have to either be reassigned or resign so he could live in Eirini. Neither wanted to ask that of the other and that was part of the reason their wedding date wasn't set yet. They loved each other, wanted to be together, but they didn't want the other person to grow resentful because they had to leave everything of their old lives behind to with the other person. So whenever Angel was asked when her wedding would be, she said it would be when the time was right. And whenever people harassed Milson about his upcoming marriage, he'd say it would happen when it was meant to happen.::

Over the past few years, Bree debated what to do with her life. She was torn between two things. The more she learned about the temple, the more she wanted to join. The problem was though that priestesses were to be single and devote themselves to the temple and helping Pagos' citizens. They wouldn't accept people who were in relationships. She loved Nevek and she wanted to be with him. She always saw herself having children with him, growing old with him. She could be happy being his wife but she thought if she didn't explore being a priestess, she'd regret it forever. That she'd look back on her life and wish she had done it. She wasn't sure what prompted her today to finally do it. Maybe it was because she had a bad day at the bakery, dealing with customers who were complaining about such petty things. At the end of her shift she told her boss she quit. Her boss was shocked and tried to talk Bree into reconsidering but she wouldn't. Her mind was made up, it was time for action instead of always putting it off. As soon as she left the bakery, she went to the temple to join their priestess program. Her excitement about it was shadowed by the fact that tonight she'd have to break up with Nevek. She didn't truly want to but she couldn't have both. She hoped he'd understand....He had said he'd support her in whatever she decided to do. She waited outside the castle's main entrance to met him after work. Once she saw him, she told him.

Nevek was thrilled when he heard Milson was now engaged to Angel. They would be happy together and it made him a little proud that he got them talking the first day they met. It also made him think about his own life. He and Bree had been together since they met as teenagers in school. It was pretty much assumed they'd stay together and get married, have a family. They just hadn't made it official yet. He couldn't see himself with anyone else. The more he thought about it, the more Nevek thought he should talk to Bree about getting married. He was surprised to see her waiting for him when he was off duty. His mouth dropped open in shock when she said she quit her job.

Bree told Nevek with a sigh. She wasn't looking forward to hurting him or herself. She didn't really understand the whole rule about priest and priestesses being single but she had to respect it if she wanted to be a priestess. She just didn't like having to break up with Nevek.
I'm sorry but you and I...We can't be together anymore because the temple doesn't accept priestess who aren't single...I want you to know that I do love you. I didn't do this as an excuse to break up, I did it because I feel I'll regret it the rest of my life if I don't see if this what I'm meant to do with my life...I don't want to hurt you Nevek...

At least he didn't have to hear her reject his proposal. He could tell though she wasn't happy about breaking up with him. He didn't really understand the big deal about temple people being single and devoting themselves just to the gods. He touched her cheek.
And I understand...I told you before I'd support you in whatever you decide. I love you and I want you to be happy. Even if that means not being with me.

Luca
http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll145/sojournfan/luca.jpg
This day started out the same for Luca as most days did. She had lived in the castle all her life. Her parents were servants and she had been raised to be one as well. She was in charge of checking on Princess Selene. She remembered the princess once gave her a new doll for her birthday. She had thought it was nice of Selene. King Lars was a good king to work for. He was a kind ruler, although sad. Everyday he'd ask her if there was any change in Selene and everyday Luca would have to tell him the same thing. The princess was sleeping. She was going to head to the market to look for a present for her mother when a woman came up to her outside the main gate of the castle.
Excuse me, are you Luca?
Yes...Do I know you?
Luca asked her with a frown. It wasn't like Luca was that important for people to know her name. Half the people in the castle didn't even know her name and she had lived there all her life.
No but let's talk privately. I have an offer for you that I think you'll like.
Okay...
Luca replied and had the woman follow her into the castle to Luca's room. It was the most private place she could think of to talk. Luca asked what the woman wanted and she replied.
Soon the sleeping princess will awaken and she'll need your help.
What?
Was all Luca could say as she was confused why a princess would need a servant's help. The woman explained that Selene wasn't a normal human but a First. She was the Goddess of Ice. Although when the princess woke up she wouldn't remember anything about her and Luca would have to help her awaken her powers. She told Luca how someday in the future a threat would come to Nero and the princess would need to awaken her powers to protect the planet.
Why me?
Because you're meant to be more then what your parents were. You're stronger then you think.
The woman replied and Luca frowned. She did want to more then a servant but she really didn't understand the strong comment. Nor could she figure out why she felt a little dizzy when the woman touched her shoulder as she said it. The woman handed her a mirror.
There is another in Nero that will protect the planet. Prince Barrett of Fotia. He'll awaken soon as well. A man named Jared will help him. The mirrors will help you communicate with each other, so you can work together to save Nero.
She told Luca that Jared was going to help Barrett when he awakened. Luca wondered if the woman was crazy but then the woman told her to look into the mirror. Instead of seeing her own reflection she saw the palace of Fotia. Luca wasn't sure why but she agreed. She thought the gods were part of stories but then again she never thought one could use a mirror that way either. If it was true, then she should help Selene learn about her powers so she could someday protect Nero. The woman told her a little more about the First and how to use the mirror to talk to Jared before she left. The woman told Luca she was only to talk about the First with Jared. Selene would have to learn things on her own. Luca tried the mirror out once the woman was gone.
Umm...hi. I'm Luca. I guess we're working together to help the princess and prince when they wake up.
She told Jared with a smile when she got a hold of him.

Ever since Prince Barrett had fallen into his coma, everything was different around Fotia. Queen Ember was still a kind and just queen but so sad. She used to throw parties but she had no desire for them. In fact, she seemed more content being with the animals in her menagerie then anything else. If only the prince woke up, then she'd be happy. Jared's father had retired and Queen Ember made Jared her next royal advisor. He was well suited for the role, his father had been teaching him since he was a teenager. Queen Ember had given him some old scrolls to file away in the library. He was heading that way when the woman approached him.
Are you Jared?
Yes but who are you?
Jared asked with a frown. He had never seen the woman before and the part of the palace he was in wasn't frequented by visitors.
A friend. Come, let's talk privately.
She told him and Jared led her to his office to talk. As soon Jared shut the door, he demanded to know who she was but the woman wouldn't give her name.
Relax, I'm here for a good reason. Soon the prince will awaken and he'll need your help.
Why would he-
Jared was going to ask why Barrett would need his help but the woman cut him off as she told him why. Barrett wasn't a normal human but a First. He was the God of Fire. Although when the prince woke up he would no memories at all and Jared would have to help him remember who he truly was and help him awaken his powers. Barrett's powers would need to be awakened because someday Nero would have a great threat and Barrett would need to protect the planet.
No offense but what you're saying is-
"Crazy"?
The woman offered and Jared nodded his head.
You only think it is because you haven't seen what is truly out there in the world. Soon you will. There is another whose powers will have to awaken to protect Nero. Princess Selene of Pagos. She'll awaken soon. A woman named Luca is going to help her. The mirrors will help you communicate with each other, so you can work together to save Nero.
She told Jared about Luca and Selene. Jared still thought she was a little crazy until she told him to look into the mirror she was holding. Instead of seeing his own reflection he saw the castle of Pagos. Jared wasn't sure if he could truly trust the woman but he agreed to help Barrett. Nero was his home and he should do what he could to keep it safe. The woman told him a little more about the First and how to use the mirror to talk to Luca before she left. Reminding him not to talk about the First with anyone other then Luca. Barrett would have to learn things on his own. When Luca contacted him, he told her with a smile.
I guess so. I'm Jared.
He had the feeling this would be a start of a good friendship between him and Luca even if they were two different kingdoms and had never met before.
