As you can see, the new Quarrels and Quills site theme is now ready. Yes, we’ve moved from our previous dark text on light background to a theme with light text on a dark background. For some, this might take a little getting used to, especially if you are used to the lighter colors. Ultimately, though, it should hopefully cause less strain on your eyes, which is a good thing.

Of course, the theme wasn’t the only change. All the software that powers the site has been updated to the latest versions. You probably won’t notice much of a difference when posting in the forums, but these improvements will be noticable as you start utilizing our free blogs. A few months ago, I set up the site to use WordPress mu for blogs. Up until this point, I had only used it for the announcements on the homepage. Now, if you have an account at Quarrels and Quills, you can sign up for a blog for free. All you need to do is go to the Blogs link at the top of the page to access the blogs page, and sign up from there.

The blogs have been released with many different themes to choose from, with more to be added in the future. In addition, there are several plugins that are available that you can use to enhance the functionality of your blog. Like the themes, more plugins will be added in the future.

You will also notice a change with the web comics, especially if you are on a larger resolution monitor. In the old theme, you had a small thumbnail to click on to view the larger image. Now, if your screen is large enough, there won’t be a thumbnail at all. For those who don’t have the large resolutions, there will still be a thumbnail to click on to view the entire web comic.

These aren’t the only features that will be available. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be working on a few other additions to the site, such as categorization of smilies, so you can easily find the smiley you want to add to your post. Keep watching the announcements for future developments and additions. Don’t be afraid to let your voice be heard.
