Jericho the Comic Book

Last month it was reported that Devils Due would be bringing the canceled television series to comic book. I can’t help but wonder if it will ever happen given that Devils Due has been late with payments to other creators. Has canceled solicited titles such as World of Dungeons and Dragons.

I hope it happens since I liked the show. And thought CBS was boneheaded. Just like they were canceling Moonlight the next year. But I have my doubts about Devils Due.

So what happens…

Jericho: Season Two

I do hope that you are watching the second season of Jericho. So far we have had two episodes Tuesdays at 10. You can probably see the 1st of those online now. And the second one I think will be replayed on Saturday night if they repeat what they did last week.

So far…

Last Season….

There was a nuclear attack on the United States and it left the country without power. A small town named Jericho had to survive on its own. Then a neighboring town decided they wanted Jericho’s supplies and they tried to invade.

Second Season
A new government based in Cheyenne arrives and stops the fighting and they start to rebuild the two towns. They are the Allied States of America. They responded to the nuclear attacks by wiping north Korea(or at least its suggested they did) and one othe country out. Now they are trying to consolidate the old United States by gaining Texas’s support.

This last episode the president of the Allied States visited Jericho and announced there would be a new Constitutional convention to draw up the law of the Allied States. The mayor of Jericho has been invited

Oh and there appears that the Cheyenne government had a little something to do with the nuclear bombs that hit the US. You might want to check out this show. Its good.

Jericho could be saved

TV Guide is reporting that Jericho has apparently been saved by the Save Jericho campaign. All that needs to be done is find a new stage and negotiate with the actors. The actors contracts were voided when CBS decided that it would not renew. However, most of the actors have stated that they want to return.

With the exception of Gerald McRaney who decided he wanted to leave the series because of the way CBS was treating the show(The Hiatus). That’s why according to some reports his character was killed in the season finale.

To add the case that this is more then rumors, the LA Times has a wonderful quote from Producer Carol Barbee:

“The idea would not be to bring it for eight and out, but to bring it back for eight with the hope that it would keep going,” Barbee said. “They’re making deals with the actors and there’s other logistical stuff to work out too. ‘Swingtown’ [a new drama] was supposed to take over the same stages so it’s a lot about the logistics of how to work out a schedule that works for all of us.”

Now lets home that CBS doesn’t decide to change its mind in the eleventh hour again.

CBS Cares

One of the trademarks of CBS is CBS Cares. I have to wonder exactly what CBS cares about. Do they care what their viewers think? You’d think they’d be up there since the whole point of the television network would be to entertain viewers. But based on this little song reported in Find The Boots: Save Jericho: Corporate Life it would appear that Gil Schwartz, the Executive VP of Corporate communications does not care about the viewers. Here is his song in response to the largest television viewer protest that CBS has ever seen:

“We’re sorry, oh oh … that we canceled … Jericho!/You’ve sent us millions of nuts, it’s really a pain in our butts/But it would have been better if you got together/Before the big upfronts in May/When development season gave reason to send you away/ And made you as righteously pissed off as you are today.”

Since its not the viewers, you’d think maybe they’d care about their advertisers. But they let their disenfranchised viewers spend over $50,000 on a show without responding to them. That’s money that could have been used to buy products that were advertised on their network.

Perhaps CBS cares about their shareholders. But if that were the case, would they not try to please angry fans that are causing an uproar that could damage their share prices?

So you have to wonder exactly what does CBS Care about.

I know one thing, CBS certainly has an immature jackass for a VP of Corporate Communications.

Jericho: The Pittsburgh Numbers

Ok so Jericho supposedly only had 8 or 9 million viewers nationally. Now one person at http://www.jerichorallypoint.com/sm/index.php?topic=1455.0 was able to get the following information from KDKA, the CBS owned Pittsburgh station:

October: Approx 107,000 households, and 139,000 18+ watched Jericho each week
November: Approx. 95,000 households, and 72,000 18+ watched.
May: Approx 1,163,150 people watched here, and 72,000 households.

Now I admit I’m a bit befuddled on how 72,000 households turns into the over 1 million people but KDKA said it so I’ll accept it.

Yes the numbers do show it falling from 107,000 households to 72,000. About a third of the viewership. BUT in a region that is considered small, 1,163,150 were still watching Jericho. Now KDKA probably is broadcasted into between 3-5 million people’s homes. But that is a complete guess. Allegheny County has a population of 1.2 million and then the surrounding counties are between 72000-370,000. And I’m not sure just how far the KDKA signal is.

But 1,163,150 were watching. So everyone is supposed to believe that the rest of the nation ony had 6 million viewers? Or am I completely wrong when I guess how many homes KDKA makes it to?

Something doesn’t smell right. Oh yeah… the Neilsen’s.

Find The Boots: Save Jericho: You Can’t Control The Monster

A very interesting read.

If its true that CBS has hired an outside PR firm to fight the Save Jericho campaign then CBS is officially the dumbest network in the history of Television.

Think about it.

CBS claims the show didn’t have enough viewers. But the protests just get louder. So instead of recognizing that perhaps they’re numbers were wrong, they hire a PR firm to fight the movement. Now call me silly but if a television show doesn’t have enough viewers to stay on the air then why on earth would the in house pr people need help battling the disenfranchised viewers that are taking a stand. After all the viewers that stand up and fight probably represent 1% of the actual viewers.

How many signs does it take CBS? You had a hit and you’re not recognizing it.

Jericho’s Crusade

Its an amazing thing what the Internet can do. It used to be that network executives could cancel shows and they disappear without a trace. With the fans only realizing months later and after the casts have found new work so its to late to do anything. Now today the internet allows immediate news to reach the fans.

And http://www.nutsonline.com/jericho happens. Or for those not interested in clicking the link. 10 tons of nuts and counting gets sent to CBS in protest. Or over $29,000 at this writing.

Now some might hold up their nose at this and start acting all high and mighty about how this money could have been spent another way. To those people, I say mind your own business. People can use THEIR money for whatever they want. They can fight whatever causes THEY want to fight. Just like YOU are capable of fighting whatever cause you want to fight. People should not be ridiculed because they care about something. They should be ridiculed when they don’t do something and then whine about it.

Just like I have voted in every election since I was 18. That gives me the right to express just how disgusted I am with the current regime. If you don’t vote, you have zero right to whine.

If all you want to do is sit at home and whine because others are doing something they care about then you are the one that should be ridiculed.

Anyone that stands up and says NO to the corrupt politicians or the corrupt corporate spin doctors should be applauded.
