Is there anything that could be better then that?
I mean seriously. Could there be a better story then Mario and Ron Burkle buying the Pirates?
It could even make me a Penguins fan. I have never liked hockey but if they could save Pittsburgh from the worst owner in sports, I’m willing to learn to love hockey. Truly I am.
Do Pittsburgh a service and sell the team Nutting. Pittsburgh deserves better then you.

The Pittsburgh Pirates did some improvement by subtraction last night when they decided not to tender a contract to Matt Capps. Now he won’t cost them any more games that should have been victories. He was absolutely atrocious last year. A closer with an ERA of over 5 is unneeded.
Of course there’s the people proclaiming this is an example of the Pirates’ cheapness. Maybe but he wasn’t worth what they paid him last year. Of course none of the players are.

5 straight losses.
3 Against the Raiders! Browns! Chiefs!
And obviously the Browns defense is the best in the league.
And where were the changes in the lineup? Where was the rookie cornerbacks? Tomlin lied.

Do their receivers know how to catch? I think maybe they need to send Brady Quinn out to run routes for Cribbs to throw to more often.
Not looking forward to the Steelers game tonight without Ben… Its not going to be pretty

All these trades over the past few days have been great. Get rid of the left overs from the Dave Littlefield era and let’s floos the system with legitimate prospects instead of the inferior trades of past gms.
The only trade that takes a player that will be missed is Grabrow. The rest of them were players that needed to go. Especially after the two middle infielders decided they couldn’t play for 4 million and 5 million a year.

Sanchez was offered 10 million dollars over two years and Wilson 8 million over 2 but that wasn’t enough for either player. Despite claiming that they wanted to stay here in Pittsburgh and despite claiming they would play for less to do so.
Now the median average income in America is roughly 50,000 dollars. That means the median average American would work about 40 years and earn two million dollars over the course of their lifetime
Wilson couldn’t play a game for twice that over two years. And Sanchez couldn’t for 2.5 times that. I feel so bad for the two of them being so underpaid for playing a GAME.

I’d like to see a new channel come into the area as a regional sports channel. Fox Sports Pittsburgh gets on my nerves. Over in Ohio, every single Indians game is televised on Sportstalk Ohio after they abandoned the Fox Sport Net Ohio… while we have a measly 120 games televised.
And if a scheduled televised game is rained out, FSN doesn’t automatically televise the makeup and when they do its the exception. Its like they look for reasons to avoid televising games.
Their schedule is filled with utter garbage that I can’t imagine anyone watching… and they just canceled the only show worth anything on the channel besides Pirates and Pens games. And that show just happened to be based on what I’ve read the highest rated show on the channel… But its to expensive for the cheapskates that will only show 120 games instead of the full season…
How about Comcast Sports Net coming into the Pittsburgh market? Or the Pirates and Pens forming their own channel together and saying adios to FSN like the Cleveland Indians? We are after all following the Cleveland model.

I wish MLB would move the Pirates into the Natiional League East. We might continue to be the basement dweller but at least the teams coming into Pittsburgh would be interesting.
There is quite frankly not a single team in the Central that is a team I ever want to watch.
Whereas the East has the Mets, Phillies, Marlins, and the Braves. All teams I enjoy watching the Pirates play. Of course I like it even more when the Pirates beat them.
How hard would it be to move the Pirates into a division where they actually have historical rivalies? I don’t think too hard since the Central has 6 teams and the East 5. Just change which division has the higher number.

What do you think of the Pirates’ ‘big risk’ trades with the Yankees and the Nationals?
Category: Sports

A.
Good trades - 686 (23%)
B.
Bad trades - 1493 (50%)
C.
Undecided; will have to wait and see - 780 (26%)
Just unbelievable. The Pirates robbed and I mean robbed the Nationals yesterday and this is the result of the polls. Trades = bad. Even though the team STINKS. Even though we traded away what amounts to a 6th outfielder on any other mlb team and a relief picture with past arm trouble for a potential superstar that just has to mature.
Oh my goodness he did a rap song with bad language. Geez… don’t they all have bad language?
This is the problem with people. They think ball players need to be role models. Parents are role models. Baseball players are baseball players. And good ones are jerks.
That’s why the Pirates have stunk for 17 years. Trying to do it with nice guys who can be role models. Instead of talented players.
And and the other trade a bench player with one homerun who has done nothing for them all year for prospects. And that’s bad?
And then there’s the people who complain they should have kept Bay. Then signed a free agent for 3rd base… That’s how Littlefield tried to do it. It failed miserably. That’s how we ended with Burnits, Randa, Bell, ect. Signing cheap free agents for too much money.

“We know that they’re looking to the future, which doesn’t say much about 2009,” he continued. “That’s probably what’s so shocking. We’re five games out, and we lost two or three of our everyday players. That’s what hits us the most. You can understand if it’s the end of July. You see that stuff coming. … They’re businessmen. They’re trying to achieve winning baseball in Pittsburgh. The biggest question is: When is that going to be. When do things start turning around? It’s just hard for guys who have been here and seen these exact same trades happen and seen it absolutely do nothing. I’ve been here nine years. I’ve seen these trades 2 or 3 times a year every year and still haven’t had a winning season. You hope, eventually, some of these trades will work out. It’s just they haven’t yet. They think they’re getting deals they can’t pass up. I guess. I guess. I guess. Whatever.”
So I guess Jack Wilson thinks that the Pirates should have held pat and continued to lose. You know this is funny coming from a guy who came here in a trade. And who’s 2nd basemen came in a trade. Who’s first basemen came in a trade. Who’s third basemen came in a trade. Who’s Left Fielderfrom tonight came in a trade. Who’s right fielder from tonight came in a trade. Who’s catcher came in a trade. Who’s starting pitcher came in a trade.
Yeah making trades never amounts to anything. And I’m sure all of those teammates are just thrilled to death with his comments that their coming to the Pirates was a mistake.
I’ll take Karstens, Ohlendorf, Morton, and Lastings over Bay, Nady, Morgan, and McLouth. The only one of those four I regret seeing gone is Bay. Although his tendency of striking out when it mattered was quite annoying. Particularly when he took strike three.
And I’d take a talented immature player over a medicore nice guy any day of the week. I’m tired of the mediocre fan favorites. It started with John Weiner and continued to this day with Morgan and McLouth. Its time to stop with the he’s such a swell guy and get some ball players on the roster.
I prefer getting the guy with the attitude that might actually be the next Bonds to this.
When you get right down to it, the choice is: Keep loving the McLouths and Morgans and whining when they’re gone and you’ll get another 17 years of losing or take a chance for the talented one with the attitude and the losing might actually end.
