The Matrix Quadrant
Sinister Goddess of Fate
She is also known as the Goddess of Chance or, sometimes, the Goddess of Life and Death.
She is missing, presumed dead. A possible casualty of the Negation War.
Slightly smaller in size than Earth, with a climate roughly equivalent.
Large proportion of the planet is water, with two major continents and a series of small islands.
Largest Continent -- Plenix (PLEN-icks) -- includes the south pole and stretches to about the 45th North Parallel. It's terrain contains grasslands, swamps, forests, hills, mountains, tropical jungles, and antartic wastes.
Other Continent -- Lienor (LEE-nore) -- mostly contained in the northern hemisphere from just below the north pole to just below the equator. It contains grasslands, forests, hills and desert (along the equatorial region).
Islands vary in size and topography. Many are volcanic in nature.
Single moon, Breth
Ice/rock ring around the equatorial region
Humans are the most abundant race, and can be found everywhere on Aerysh.
Lienor elves are typically found in the forests of Lienor.
Mountain dwarves are typically found within the hills and mountains of Plenix.
Dragons are rare, but can be found in remote locations anywhere on Aerysh.
Other natural and mythical beasts can be found across Aerysh.
Humans have established most of the cities, towns and villages that dot Aerysh. The society tends to be feudal in nature, despite the fact that there is technology that surpasses that of present day Earth. War is commonplace as territory boundries are often disputed. Marriage treaties, mutual pacts, and other arrangements are commonplace among the humans. The Lienor elves tend to stay within their forests, and are very protective of their borders. No human settlements can be found in elven lands, although humans are occasionally granted passage into elven towns. The dwarves live in large caverns carved into the mountains. Because of their skills as craftsmen, they often trade with the humans. They don't get involved with human politics, and generally work with either, or both sides, depending on who is willing to pay the price.
Magic and Technology
Lienor elves are adpet in utilizing the universal energies in their magics. They are known to draw their power directly from Aerysh. They believe that humans have corrupted "their" magic, and are draining Aerysh's life. They despise the works of technology, particularly dwarven technology, as they feel it furthers the corruption of Aerysh. Elves refuse to use any kind of "advanced technology" except for their "natural magic" creations.
Mountain dwarves magic is slightly different. They are technology experts and master craftsmen. Their "magic" is weaving the universal energies into their technological creations.
Humans are adapters. They don't have the innate ability to tap into the universal energies of Aerysh as the elves do, nor do they know how to craft the universal energies into their technologies. They study magic in order to cast their spells, and their technology is pure science. The technology level is above that of modern day earth, with energy weapons and faster-than-light space ships.
There is a form of magic that elves and dwarves tend to despise. It is known as "Aerik." It is the process of finding pure springs of universal energy from Aerysh and compressing it into crystal form. It is considered an abomination by non humans, and thought to be extremely dangerous to the planet. The crystals can be added to technology and its power drawn upon, even if the user has no magical knowledge or natural ability. The Aerik powered technology can often be more powerful than elven magic or dwarven technology, because of the concentration of universal energies. Unfortunately, the high concentration of energies can also dangerous to the user, as the power could backlash in rare instances. In addition, there is an affliction called "Aerik poisoning" where heavy users of Aerik crystals become sick without the crystals. Those exposed for long periods of time, the effect can possibly be fatal. There is no known cure for Aerik poisoning. Humans are the only ones that use Aerik crystals, and even then it is a rare practice.
Locations of Interest
Isle of Fortune - This is a small island in the northern ocean. The island's center is a large dormant volcano, at the top of which is a large silver and gold palace. This palace was once the home of Fortina, but is currently only occupied by her human servants. At the base of the mountain is a small human village. The technology level of this town is low, most of the people tending to live off the land, and having no real need for weapons of any kind, except for hunting and fishing purposes. Despite the technology and magic of the rest of the world, this island is usually hidden to the rest of the world. It is referred to in many legends, and many have gone off in search of the island, but never have found it. This is a result of Fortina's chance magic, that prevents anyone she doesn't want on the island from finding it, which includes most other First.
QC1: From this day forth you shall be called "Sprinkle Berryweather".
Kevin Flynn: The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships, motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then, one day... ...I got in!
Location: The Kreulian System, which is a galaxy near the Matrix Quadrant.
Surface Conditions: Earth-like, yet slightly warmer than Earth. More desert regions, approximately 50% water / 50% land. Smaller arctic/antartic regions. Large number of technologically advanced cities scattered across the planet.
Ruler/Owner/Governing Body(s): There is mostly anarchy on Targis. While small governing bodies have tried to form in various regions, they generally collapse within a couple of years. It is also in dispute between three bordering empires in the Kreulian System.
Primary Inhabitants: Mostly humans, with other alien life forms as well.
Places of Interest:
Technological Level: Futuristic, yet in very limited supply. (Laser weapons, faster-than-light ships, advanced medical)
Brief History: Targis is a world in chaos. It is on the border of three different empires in the Kreulian System, and all three claim ownership of the planet. This has caused many battles and acts of terrorism to occur on Targis.
Even when the three empires aren't fighting on Targis soil, there's still the matter of the anarchy that reigns within the planet's own inhabitants. Drugs, crime, slavery, and other illicit acts are all common on Targis.
The people of Targis can generally be divided into five categories.
Scum - These are the lowest of the low, living on the streets, usually strung out on drugs, resorting to crime, and the like.
Slaves - As the name suggests, they are slaves of any kind. Usually they are kept in line by powerful drugs that keep them complacent and obedient to ther owners.
Lessers - These are "common" people that are just trying to survive in a hostile world. They generally are forced to work long, hard hours, for very little money. Many have resorted to drugs, but they haven't become as strung-out as Scum.
Aristocrats - These are the wealthy. There is a large gap between them and the Lessers. Aristocrats would be the ones employing Lessers in their sweat shops, and possibly even own their own slaves. Many are in their position, or being used by crime lords.
Crime Lords - If there is any type of rule or law on Targis, that would belong to the Crime Lords. They are the ringleaders for all that goes on on Targis. They are trecherous and single-minded. They are almost always at war with each other, and very rarely would you find two or more crime lords working together.
Location: In a galaxy far away from Elysia.
Surface Conditions: Earth-like world with two moons.
Ruler/Owner/Governing Bodies: Terran rules this world. There are a number of nations ruled by local governors that all answer to Terran.
Primary Inhabitants: Humans live in large cities, towns and villages all across Terra.
Tech Level: Equivalent to today. No space travel. No weapons of mass destruction (nuclear, biological, etc.)
Places of Interest:
Terran's Palace and Terran's Peak - Terran lives in a large palace at the base of an active volcano, Terran's Peak. It is a large marble structure that has stood for thousands of years, unharmed by the frequent lava flows from the volcano.
Unique Planetary Conditions:
Terra was once known as Omega XIII. It was a human colony of refugees from a dying world. The techonogical level was high, the people had advanced sciences. Soon after the colony was established, Terran came to the world. He was looking for a world far away from Elysia so that he could guard a helm.
After he arrived, he immediately set himself up as ruler of the world. The citizens rebelled against his rule, and attacked him. He destroyed the rebels and their technology, setting them back to the equivanet of the middle ages.
Over the years, the technological level of the people began to increase, but it was always under Terran's watchful eye. He would not allow them to develop their technology back to the level it was before. The technological level is now at the equivalent of late 20th century, early 21st century, without the space program, which Terran prohibits.
Battles and wars have been commonplace on Terra for as long as Terran had ruled over it. He often would manipulate events on the planet to allow battles to happen. Weapons were always a technology that he approved of, except for the weapons of mass destruction, as that took some of the edge off the battles.
The Grove Planet
Name: Unnamed, usually called the Grove planet
Location: The planet rests near the core of the galaxy that Elysia is located within.
Surface Conditions: This planet possesses an Earth like environment. It has the standard four seasons, but each one lasts for six months. Nearly all of its land is covered by unspoiled forests or jungles.
Ruler/Owner/Governing Body(s): None
Primary inhabitants: The planet is populated by a wide variety of animal and plant life.
Places of Interest: The Grove, a section of a vast forest that is a convergence in a massive network of spacial portals.
Unique Planetary Conditions: There are a countless amount of access points to a network of portals that lead to nearly every place in the universe. These access points are centralized within a few square miles of forest. These portals can be located and opened using a crystal based gadget created by Qwaring.
Brief History: Qwaring discovered this planet and its portal network during his early travels in this universe. He has tried to map out the portal network but his attempts to use artificial probes did not work out, since the probe's internal mechanisms would degrade within the portals. Qwaring soon created a device that would use the bio-electrical field of a humanoid being to shield its internal workings from the damaging effects the portals have on its technological components.
When Quaxo came to Qwaring seeking transportation Qwaring decided to use her to map out the portal network. He gave her a device that would allow her to travel through the portal network, while at the same time it would secretly map out the network for Qwaring. When he gave Quaxo the device he also gave her free reign of the Grove and the rest of the planet.
Location: Somewhere in the same Galaxy as Elysia
Surface Conditions: Earth-like planet. Combination of Feudal Kingdoms and Barbarian Tribes. Some magic is in the world (very limited).
Ruler/Owner/Governing Bodies: Numerous Feudal Kingdoms and barbarian tribes.
Primary inhabitants: Humans.
Places of Interest:
Kingdom of Terish: This is a small kingdom on Reshnael. It is ruled by Queen Meena. Currently, it is not at war with its neighboring nations.
Town of Arindale: This is the largest town in Terish, and the center for commerce for the entire kingdom. The Queen's castle is in the center of the town, and the town governor, Lord Winchester, has a large manor house (almost a small castle) on the edge of town.
The Thirsty Goat: The largest, best and most well-known inn and pub in Arindale. Food is good and the ale is legendary. Like many pubs, it is a center for gossip, but moreso here, since it is the most popular spot in the town.
Valley of Geranth: This is a large valley, surrounded by very tall mountains, hidden and protected by magic from Altwaal. It is populated by powerful mages and some dragons. It cannot be found as long as the Orbs of Power are still in the Universe.
Cave of Souls: This cave in the Valley of Geranth was sealed by Altwaal, and used to trap Thaerin, a Sinister First who saught to destory Altwaal. Inside the cave are also the Talismans of Power that were created and owned by Thaerin. This Cave also has an unusually high concentration of Universal Energy here that can be tapped into by those who are familiar with it.
The Kingdom of Drache: This is an isolationist kingdom that does not want contact with the rest of the world. People that enter their kingdom tend to never be heard from or seen again. There's a legend that Minity, when she was on the planet, went into Drache and forced them to accept that they would not be able to conquer the planet. Apparently they had intensions of global dominance. As a result of Minity's visit, they do not travel outside their kingdom or have any sort of diplomatic relations with the rest of the kingdoms.
The Ruins of Angels Hallow: This small city/kingdom was once known for being a center of learning. Its name stemmed from the fact an image of an angel was burned into the great tree there. Several unique relics of the past were first discovered there. A few years ago, a new energy source was uncovered, a small glowing rock that was quickly dubbed the angel's heart due to its size and shape. The greatest minds aorund sought to tap its powers but they unleashed a force beyond their comprehension. In one bright flash, Angels Hallow was consumed in flames. The only thing that remained afterwards was the angel tree, unharmed by the fires that consumed the city.
Brief History: At one time, this planet had First directly involved in it. Minity and Lord Mattson were the main two First that were involved in the affairs of Reshnael. Magic was more prevalent, and dragons were common.
Hundreds of years ago, before Altwaal divided the First, there was a Sinister First that came to Reshnael, Thaerin. Thaerin discovered the Cave of Souls, and an untapped raw power inside. He used this power and infused them into Talisman's of power, designed to increase his own powers so that he might overthrow Altwaal and rule all the First.
A large battle erupted between the First and Reshnael. Eventually, Reshnael was defeated and Altwaal sealed Thaerin was sealed in the Cave of Souls with his talismans. To prevent further tampering with the untapped UE that was in the cave, he sealed off the cave, hid the valley, and made it so that the First would no longer be interested in the affairs of the planet.
Many lives were lost during the war. Dragon, Human, and First alike. The few dragons that survived remained in the Valley of Geranth with most of the world's wizards to protect the Cave of Souls and ensure that the evil locked inside would never be released into the world again.
Location: Kory Andr' Star System, The Raven Constellation
Surface Conditions: The planet is a tropical paradise, mostly covered with water, and several tropical islands dotting the surface. The planet is unihabited, except for native wildlife.
Ruler/Owner/Governing Bodies: None
Primary inhabitants: Quaxo
Places of Interest: A lake in the center of the largest island has healing qualities. Humans can even experience fountain of youth style properties from the waters.
The home of Quaxo is attached to the side of a large hollow mountain on the main island, not far from the healing lake.
Unique Planetary Conditions: Visitors to this planet will find that this planet is very relaxing. A couple hours of sleep can equal an entire night's good slumber. Even healing is accelerated on the planet. Humans can also feel younger on this planet.
Brief History: This planet was discovered by Jas and Quaxo. While searching the big island that they were on, they found a small lake that had mysterious properties. As of yet, the full history of the planet is unknown.
Location: The Rob In Star System, The Raven Constellation
Surface Conditions: Days are 30 hours long. 10 hours of daylight and 20 hours of night. The surface is mostly earth-like, mountains, hills, forests, fields, etc. Cities are technologically advanced, and usually large cities. Some smaller towns and villages can also be found.
Ruler/Owner/Governing Bodies: Anarchy is the greatest force on Kelesar. There are few kingdoms and nations, but mostly things are run by the vampires, werewolves, mages or cyborgs. The humans, for the most part, live in fear and very few humans actually rule.
Humans: These are your normal humans. They are the most numerous inhabitants on the planet, but are often living in fear of the monsters who rule the planet.
Bionts: Biogenetically enhanced humans. These humans have been enhanced biogenetically in some way.
Cyborgs: Cybernetically enhanced humans. These humans have technological implants or body parts that enhance them in some way. Almost all Cyborgs are also biogenetically enhanced as well.
Magi: Also known as Mages. These are beings that have natural magical affinities. They have extended life spans and powerful magics. They are considered one of the "monsters."
Scholars: Also known as Wizards or Sorcerers. These are humans that have studied and learned to use magic. They have to study their magic, and their powers aren't usually as great as that of the Magi, but they can become powerful in their own right.
Vampires: These tend to be the most secretive of the "monsters." They prefer to manipulate events from behind the scenes. The are some that take a more active role, but in general, they prefer to remain undetected. Vampires are only active during the night hours, which, on Kelesar, is 20 hours long.
Werewolves: Another "monster." They tend to live in the wilds, but occassionally will be found in small towns and villages, ruling the community through fear.
Ghouls: Ghouls were once human, but through drinking the blood of a vampire, they become bound to the vampire. They are used as meals for Vampires, or as slaves and errand-boys during the daylight hours. Ghouls look no different than regular humans, except that their skin is slightly more pale.
Places of Interest:
Gothic Big Canyon: A large canyon, larger than the Grand Canyon on Earth. It is home to many types of dangers, yet to be discovered.
Felstarr: A large city on the north side of the Gothic Big Canyon. It is the only city on Kelesar with a space port. The shuttles from that port only go to the orbiting space station.
Space Station: The only orbiting space station on the planet. It is owned and controlled by a vampire, who uses the station for parties and other things for his friends and potential allies. He often brings human slaves to the station for food, entertainment, and/or service.
Unique Planetary Conditions: The days are 30 hours long (10 hours daylight, 20 hours night). A week is 5 days. A month is 5 weeks (25 days). And a year is 10 months (50 weeks) (250 days). There are two moons orbiting this planet.
Rigton - The Bright Moon - This moon always faces Rob In, and is therefore always visible in the night sky.
Delen - The Dark Moon - This moon always faces away from Rob In, and is therefore always dark. It can be seen by a faint "halo" of light on the edges of the moon.
In its short existance, Kelesar already had built up quite a history. It was as if pieces of Raven formed a new people to inhabit this world, or, perhaps the people migrated from other worlds. No one can say for certain.
First were the humans. They once ruled the planet, and it was known to be a time of peace and scientific exploration. They made several scientific breakthroughs, even up to bio-genetics and cybernetic enhancements.
Then, the darkness came. Monsters, as the locals called them. Vampires, werewolves, and dark mages. These appeared, slowly taking over control of the land. The time of peace was over.
Today, the humans are still the most numerous, but they live in constant fear. Evil covers the land in the shape of "monsters." A few scattered groups of soldiers and elite cybernetic warriors, hold the line for the freedom of the humans. But they are still little match for the power of evil that has gripped Kelesar. Events are now transpiring that could affect the future for all Kelesarians.
Skotos Star System
Name: Skotos (The Dark Star)
Location: A galaxy at the far end of the known universe.
Description: Skotos is a dark star that burns with so much heat that the flames appear to be an extremely dark violet that almost appears black. It only has two planetary bodies and an asteroid ring in its orbit. The light given off by Skotos is at the very end of the visible spectrum, and is extremely high in ultra-violet radiation.
The Cryshalis Asteroid Belt - The Cryshalis Asteroid belt is the closest orbit to Skotos. Temperatures in the belt are extreme and no life can be found anywhere within. There are rumored to be high concentrations of different minerals, but no one could get safely close enough to verify the claim.
Letum (A World of Death) - Letum is a small planet in a further orbit from Skotos. Even though its distance is considerable, its temperatures are still very hot, exceeding 500 Celcius. The surface in many places is molten, which also adds to the intolerant heat of the planet. Some animalistic life forms have emerged on the world and are adapted to the intense heat of the planet. The creatures are very aggressive and hostile, and will generally attack anything on the planet, including other native creatures.
Caliga (A Dark World) - Caliga is a planet in the furthest orbit from Skotos. Its distance from its central star has given it a more tolerable climate than that of Letum, although the temperatures on Caliga are still a bit extreme for most world standards. The temperatures range from 150F (65C) at the hottest part of the day, down to -15F (-26C) at the coldest part of the night. The unique nature of the temperature range, combined with the high levels of moisture in the air causes an almost permanent mist-like effect on Caliga's surface, causing biting cold fog to sweltering misty humidity.
Name: Caliga (A Dark World)
Location: Skotos Star System. A galaxy at the far end of the known universe.
Climate: Temperatures range from 150F (65C) at the hottest part of the day, down to -15F (-26C) at the coldest part of the night. High levels of water in the atmosphere creates an almost permanent mist-like effect, causing biting cold fog to sweltering misty humidity.
Topography: Mostly flatlands, with numerous jungles and many scattered bodies of water. Few very small hills, and no mountain ranges.
Special Features: "Days" are 50 hours long, with 25 hours of "day" and 25 hours of "night." It is difficult to differentiate between day and night, except that the day is hotter than the night. The nature of Skotos, the Dark Star, creates a very minor ultraviolet glow in the "daylight" hours. This is noticeable as a slight off-color glow in white or florescent colored items, that makes those light colors appear brighter than normal against the dark light (Black-light effect). A year, one rotation around the star, is rougly equivalent to two earth years. Skarins don't measure the passage of time.
Wildlife: There are numerous creatures that have adapted to life on the surface of Caliga. Despite the lack of light, many of these creatures have incredible vision. Others have adapted to the darkness by using a type of sonar and incredible hearing capabilities (like bats). Those that live on the surface, that don't bury into the ground to protect from the heat and cold, have ways to disperse or retain heat, to regulate their body temperatures to the extremes.
Skarins - These are the dominant race of Caliga. Roughly humanoid in appearance, they stand at an average of 8 feet in height (2.4m). Despite their height, their legs are unusually short for their size, and their arms are large and powerful in comparison. This allows them to easily and quickly move through the branches of the trees. Small leathery wings protrude from their back that they can use to glide, but not fly. Their eyes are abnormally large, to allow in the trace amounts of dark light, giving them incredible vision at all times. Their ears are also quite large, giving them excellent hearing. They have no nose, which gives them no sense of smell, and no ability to taste. As a result of their large eyes, they are extremely sensitive to natural light, and even a small candle could temporarily blind a Skarin. Their sensitive hearing also makes noise above a normal tone of voice to be heard as extremely loud and painful.
Skarins have thick, leathery skin that protects them from the extreme temperatures. In the heat, the heat is dispersed along the surface of the skin and retained for when the temperatures cool, this allows them to keep a fairly constant internal body temperature.
Skarins are asexual beings, having no separate male or female genders in their species. All Skarins have the capability of reproduction built within their physiologies. Skarins have "cycles" that happen roughly every 7 to 10 of their years. A Skarin that hits their cycle will lay between 5 and 10 eggs. The Skarin will remain with their eggs until hatching, which usually happens in 3 to 5 months. Not all eggs hatch at the same time, and many don't hatch at all. Of the 5 to 10 eggs, anywhere from 1 to 4 actually hatch, the rest die. Skarin children remain in their parent's care for 5 years before they are considered old enough to go on their own. Skarins enter their reproductive cycle when they are between 12 and 16 years old. Their reproductive cycle lasts until their death, which is between 40 and 60 of their years.
Most Skarins prefer to live in the jungles, in small tribal-like communities. Despite this apparent simplistic nature, the Skarins are highly intelligent. Some Skarins have established highly advanced cities and have even begun studying space travel. The Skarin cities are almost technologically equivalent to the 1950's. For the most part, the Skarin people are peaceful, yet xenophobic (fear of other races) people.
Despite their large ears, Skarins do not speak. They are a telepathic race whose thoughts are open to all other Skarins. They communicate with their thoughts, and not with words. If it becomes necessary to deal with other races, they can use their telepathy to speak to the other person. Even though they are not using words, the receiver of the thoughts would understand the thought as if it was heard in their own native language.
Ruling/Governing Body: For the most part, the Skarins tend to be communal in nature, with either a single leader or a small council of leaders. By nature, they don't have any centralized form of government, nor do they see any need to have any government.
When Saja arrived, she established herself as Queen and Goddess of Caliga. Using her powers, she made the Skarins loyal, to the point of death. There were some Skarins, though, that were not taken in by her powers, and saw her simply as the Demon Queen of Caliga.
Locations of Interest: Saja's palace. The largest and most ornate building in all of Caliga. A small town has grown up around the palace. Those in the town are completley loyal to Saja.
Location: The Milky Way
Surface Conditions: Geaia is an earth-like world equivalent to mid-19th century earth. There are 10 continents on the planet.
Ruler/Owner/Governing Bodies: There are numerous small nations and kingdoms across the 10 continents.
Primary Inhabitants: Humans.
Brief History: Most of Geaia's history was lost in time. Histories for only the last 300 years has been discovered and recorded. Prior to that time is only legends. Legends state that, before the great enlightenment (the time when history was beginning to be recorded) that people were able to go into space. That they had weapons capable of killing millions, and leaving land uninhabitable.
Legends state it was a dark time, of much death and destruction. That it took the act of the gods to destroy all the weapons that the people had created. The truth behind the legends will never be known.
At the beginning of recorded history, the greatest invention of man was the printing press, that allowed books to be written, and history to be recorded. Technology slowly began to increase over the years. War was still common between neighboring countries and kingdoms, but nothing of the type that were spoken of in ancient legends.
Currently, the technological level is equivalent to that of the mid-1800's. Much of the world mirrors that of Earth of that century, with only minor differences.
The year is 304 A.E, 304 years after the great enlightening, and the creation of the printing press.
