and what does ic stand for

Welcome the boards. IC is means "in character", so those threads are story threads. At the top of window there is a link called "notifications", go there to edit your profile.

As Jenny said, just go to Notifications to get to your control panel to change parts of your profile. Some things (like signature and avatar) can't be updated until you reach 25 posts. Others can be updated at any time. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. We're all happy to help.
