A friend of mine is now a published writer. I've started the book he's cowritten and its proving interesting thus far. I'll give a review once I'm done but if you feel like trying something new, check it out.

QC1: From this day forth you shall be called "Sprinkle Berryweather".
Kevin Flynn: The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships, motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then, one day... ...I got in!
The world introduced in Kingmaker is definately unique and explains enough to keep you interested. The pacing is a bit slow but it works nicely to help you learn the world. The story doesn't draw on one specific mythology over another and as it reaches its conclusion, it's a different play then most. In telling a story about growing up and trying to become the man you want to be, the end game works wonderfully. Over all, I don't know if its a story that I would have read if it wasn't by someone I know but that would have been missing out on a fun trip. If I had to compare it to anything, I'd say that many parts remind me of the Codex Alera by Jim Butcher and thats high praise from me. So give it a shot. Let me know what you think.
