[IC] Titans Island

In the middle of the Hudson River was Titans Island. *It had been the shinning spot for glory and disgrace to New Yorkers since it had been the home base to the Teen Titans in its various incarnations.

A few months ago, Cyborg decided it was about time to move on and went to San Francisco, where a new team of Teen Titans was assembled.

The Titans Island was left behind, but it didn’t take too long for the Titans’ legacy to become the responsibility of a new team of young heroes.

Lead by Amazing, these new Teen Titans settled down in the island with the most modern facilities they could get. *Phase, K Kitty and *Golden Guardian were the team, along with Berry, who wasn’t quite considered part of this incarnation of the Teen Titans.

**Lee wondered how the JLA could claim that Martians were so very advanced even though the Martian made neuro-suppressor failed to keep his ring from firing in his sleep, again. The dark haired teen sits on the carpeted floor of his sleeping quarters in the Titans tower and carefully presses buttons on the small suppressor module that lies at the foot of his bed. To his left is a smashed wodden chair that had fallen victim to the power of the glowing, gold ring on Lee's right hand. When he had been sent to live here the JLA had given Lee several items that were meant to help him to adjust to his new life, the neuro-supressor was just such a gift. It is meant to keep the teen from using his will power controlled ring in his sleep. A ring that can do anything its wearer wills it to do can be disasterous in the hands of someone caught in a dream. Tonights latest episode in Lee's reoccuring nightmare had caused his ring to fire a beam of energy that had destroyed a chair, even with the neuro-suppressor working. Lee now struggles to figure out how to increase the effectiveness of the small martian gadget. He's tired of sweeping up smashed furniture. He's tired of worrying about shooting off his own foot in his sleep, or something more valuable. And most of all he's tired of the nightmares.
They begin with memories of the trips to Coast City that he and his family made when he was a little kid. Long car rides with his parents and sisters. Gradually Lee begins to realize that his dream family is speaking Qwardian, but his ring doesn't translate this dream version of the alien language. They're just driving through the desert highway and speaking jibberish. His family speaking some alien language and Lee begining to realize that they're not going to Coast City, they're driving to Qward. In the dreams Lee doesn't realize how rediculous it is that a family of five would drive to another universe in a stationwagon, he's too busy noticing that he can't move. He can hear the sound of the Qwardian scientific/torture devices being prepared behind him. His family continues to talk in nonsense, as if they don't even notice anything's wrong. Lee struggles and screams. He can hear the cart full of pain inflicting tools being wheeled to him. It doesn't matter that he's in a car, on a highway, they'll still get to him. His family don't notice or care about what's going to happen, they have to get to Qward before it gets dark. Lee can feel the Qwardian torturers right behind him. How carefully they picked their tools. How casually they treated the whole thing. Lee can almost see one of the bald monsters pick up a device. He can hear it being switched on. The semll of ozone fills his nostrils and the crackle of alien, and very painful, energy takes hold of his ears. They're going to start now and there's nothing that can stop them. Lee can't move. No one's going to stop them.
And then Lee's looking at the arc of yellow light reaching out from the ring on his finger, burning through one of his pillows and smashing a chair across the room, or in previous nights it was a desk, a lamp, a TV, and his front door. He's awake and terrified of everything.
Now he sits in front of the machine that is supposed to keep him from blowing up the city while he sleeps and tries to figure out what the Martian word for "power setting" is. Eventually he gives up with a tired sigh and looks out through his window. The surrounding island, water and in the distance the city can be seen from his window. Many people in this city have paid a fortune for a view like this, but right now Lee would pay a fortune to be looking out over the small town of Valdale, a home he can't return to with this ring on his finger. And he can't get this ring off unless he's dead.
Lee decides not to think about this disaster of a life and instead he concentrates on getting ready for another day in the "assylum", because someone would have to be crazy to want to live in this place where brightly colored spandex is the dress code. He switches off the Neuro-supressor and concentrates. His slim body is coated in golden light for a moment. His yellow t-shirt and black sweatpants are replaced with black jeans, black shoes, another yellow t-shirt and a black jacket. No one has taught him how to create clothes of any other color besides black and yellow. The fading light from Lee's ring has also cleaned away any dirt and even left his hair combed. The dark haired teen doesn't like using his ring for these instant showers and changes but he'll need any extra time he can get to clean up the fragments of the chair and report to whatever series of agonizing training sessions "the robot" has dreamed up for him today.**

In what might be cot under a pile of clothes in a corner room sleeps a legend in his own mind. The red haired master of slacking, Berry, had a long strange day of pizza delivering (see FKAJLE for all the details) and a normal night of being shot down at the local clubs. So how did this wonderful example of wasted youth end up crashing at a superhero pad? Well about a month or so back, there was a Titan's fight and a some collateral damage was about to hit an innocent young hottie. Naturally, Berry was motivated by his primary goal, to score, and boldly used his cruddy little Tempo to sheild her. His car totaled and ergo his job on the line, Berry needed new wheels. Unfortunately, that was impossible to afford. That's when a brilliant idea hit him--ask the gal he saved if he could move in with her. One very large smacking later, and Berry had another idea--ask the Titans. Guilting them, he got a place to crash so he could buy a new car. Ommiting that the money being saved was letting him pimp out the car and save up for a plasma TV, Berry has since remained. Sleeping until noon, raiding the fridge and making a nusance of himself.

What does a robot do while everyone else is asleep? He updates files, checks on the JLA data bank, keeps a close watch to all of the cameras around Titans Island and the ones strategically placed at important spots all over New York City.

Some of the original Titans felt at unease having a robot lead one of their teams, but Cyborg vouched for Amazing and that was enough to force him into the team and make him the most efficient leader. At least thats what the robot thought.

Having Professor Ivo as his creator, just like that other Amazo robot, was a burden he had to live with ever since he was created. The conception of a robot not having emotions was still popular among youngsters, and his fellow Titans werent the exception. Maybe it was due to the stiffness of his face, or the fact that he could do thousands of tasks all at once, that they built a barrier that kept him at bay. Amazing felt like an outsider leading a team of young heroes that one day would become the new JLA, but he knew he wouldnt amount to much. He was just the robot after all

He knew self pity was not a very charming emotion, but considering no one in this team cared enough about him, he didnt see why he should stop dwelling on it. Not that any emotion would show in his wax like face

Staring at the big monitor, he continued updating the servers files. Maybe not needing any sleep was his biggest flaw.

Jacques Lemere, code name "Phase," was the newest member of the Teen Titans, unless you counted the slacker, Berry, who arrived about a week after Jacques was accepted as part of the team.

Jacques was a good kid, for the most part, only getting into minor trouble with his loving grandmother. Unfortunately, when he was unable to use his powers to protect his grandmother, he determined that he would never allow that to happen again. So, he came to New York to help put a stop to crime, whether big or small.

He didn't realize, though, the work he'd be in for as a member of the Titans. Amazing could be a real task master. And those times of slow crime, like now, he often found himself doing the menial tasks. With mop and bucket in tow, he walks into the room where Amazing is updating files.

Alright, Dude, the floors are mopped. Although I still don't know why you haven't given that slacker any work to do around here. It seems like all he ever does is eat our food, and doesn't even give us free pizzas for the effort.

Amazing responded without moving his eyes from the monitor.

Berry doesnt get to do that kind of tasks because hes not a Titan. *Hes here because of a mistake, thats all, and as soon as that problem is solved, hell leave. *I dont want him messing around the Tower, would you?

He stood up from the computer and leaned on the table as he continued talking to Phase.

Were just getting this team started, the JLA is financing most of it, but we have to cut down in expenses and that means that we wont have a maid or a butler. *I hope you understand that.

So, because he's not a Titan, he doesn't have to share in the chores? You know, that realy sucks, man.

Phase said, putting the mop and bucket into a closet.

If you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go hurl now.

Phase started walking out of the room.

**Lee has disposed of the remains of the wooden chair and is now making his way through the halls of the tower in search of Amazing. The dark haired teen takes a roundabout way to get to the team leader's monitoring room, so he can continue a morning tradition that brings him so much joy. He steps up to Berry's door. Lee leans against it and listens for any noise. All is quiet inside, which makes sense since Berry seems incapable of movement until the daytime talkshows get into full swing. Lee leans down and points his right fist towards the bottom of the door and concentrates. He focuses his will through the ring on his finger and it flows out in a tendril of golden light, which snakes under the door. Lee closes his eyes and focuses on a shape. Simple shapes, like spheres and cubes are easy to make but when a construct of ring energy becomes complicated then it requires more focus. Eventually the energy that seeps into Berry's room forms into a large bell of yellow solid energy. With a mischievious grin Lee twists his thoughts and the bell of light begins to swing back and forth. The startling sound that fills Berry's room can be heard all the way in Amazing's monitoring room. After four loud clangs from the bell Lee stops concentrating on the shape, which causes the bell to vanish. An instant after the bell is gone Lee focuses again and uses the power of his ring to lift himself off of the ground and flies down the hall and away from Berry's room, leaving only the sound of his fit of hysterical laughter in his wake.
If Lee didn't know Berry he would feel guilty about these cruel moments, but being forced to live under the same roof with him Lee knows that if anyone deserves such a nerve wracking wake up call it's their resident slacker. Plus it's funny.
Soon Lee's escape takes him to the door leading to Amazing's monitoring room. The ring wielding teen has to use a burst of will power to halt his flight before he crashes into Phase, who has just exited the room. Lee flies a circle around his teammate before landing beside him. He gestures towards Amazing's chamber when he speaks to Phase.**

How's Data doing this morning? All his bolts tightened and stuff?

A hand reaches through the mess and thows a shoe towards where the bell was. It then reaches down and reburies itself.

"I don remember owning an alarm clock. Ah, well."
