Siralai Mahr

Siralai was glad to spend all the time with Reyth that the young woman needed. There was so much damage and emotional trauma to overcome, and Siralai didn't begrudge a moment of the effort it would take to help her heal.

Even so, Siralai was very conscious that she had other responsibilities, too. She couldn't neglect the others who needed her. It was a matter of balance, she realized.

That meant spending time with her original children. She didn't want them to feel replaced with the new arrivals. And it meant spending time getting to know Vanity and Apathy, too. They were to adopt the girls, after all - they didn't want the twins to see them as strangers.

Trystan had been trying, but he confessed to Siralai, "They seem nervous around me. I think they're afraid of me."

That was sad, but not unexpected. Trystan was a loving and tender father, but the only father the twins had known previously had terrorized them and their older brother. Pyrran had taken most of the beatings to protect the girls, but it had been a home rife with violence, fear, and stress for all three of them. It would take time for the girls to realize Trystan wouldn't treat any of them that way.

The twins still weren't talking much. Siralai tried conversation, but didn't get much response... so she just sat with them, and they seemed to appreciate that. That seemed to be enough.

Neva Xolte and Akaavi Spar

The irony of the situation hadn't passed her by. Their plan was a total gamble - taking place in a casino. She just hoped that the people they were looking for were looking for someone just like Felix today. Otherwise, things were going to get messy for no reward.

Neva's plan was simple. Act as a distraction for the rest of the patrons to give the people they were after the cushion they needed to snap up Felix. Theron would follow, then once he confirmed the presence of the final apprentice, they could all swoop in and finish the job. There were a few too many ways for this thing to go sideways, she realized. Several of which would likely see them beheaded by a certain Jedi. So...it would just have to go right.

She decided to use her natural skills at Pazaak - well, more her learned understanding of how Pazaak dealers worked their magic - to start things off on her side of the casino. She laid down some credits and got to work being the loudest, most obnoxious gambler in the place. Especially obnoxious to the casino manager as she started winning... It was amazing how quickly you got offered free drinks for being lucky.

On the other side of the casino, Akaavi was utilizing a...different tactic. The Mandalorian had downed several free drinks, complained of the weakness, and began playing various slot machines. As she lost credits, she started shaking the unfortunate vessel and yelling - garnering the full attention of the Golden Boot's security team. The chief among them nervously tried to talk Akaavi out of shooting the machine while the rest of them stood by, unwilling to be the first to try to cuff a crazed zabrak mando.

Felix Iresso and Theron Shan

Almost immediately, the bait was seized. After exchanging a look with the manager, two of the bouncers who had been tending the door made their way to the table.

"Excuse me, Mister...?"

"Connor," Felix replied. "Lieutenant Connor."

"And...?"

"Jones," Theron replied without a hint of hesitation.

The bouncer who had spoken nodded. "Mister Connor. Mister Jones. I would like to make you an offer. We have a VIP room for special customers. Ordinarily we wouldn't even consider offering this perk to first-time guests, but with this... racket..." he gestured vaguely toward the two Zabraks. "We'd like to offer some compensation. This is bad for business, but so is a fight, so our hands are tied. If you'd follow us this way, we'll set you up to gamble in more pleasant and comfortable surroundings."

This was the plan - sort of. Except that Felix and Theron had expected to be separated. Either they had read the situation wrong and Theron was a target too, or...

Or they whoever was in the back was sufficiently armed that they didn't expect Theron would be an issue. And that would be a very bad thing.

Still, there was no good way to abort the mission. If they let on that they were suspicious, the bouncers would likely use force. At least this way they still had an element of surprise, for what it was worth.

"Lead on," said Theron, a.k.a. Mister Jones.

Visper did her best to tend to the wounded soldier and Sith, but her mind was elsewhere. Even as she worked mechanically, she couldn't stop thinking, fretting, worrying...

"That's an awful lot of emotion for a Jedi to be carrying around," Lana teased - but the teasing was gentle, and the smile was sympathetic.

Visper smiled back ruefully. "Don't call Tython and tell on me." Then, more seriously, she added. "I can't lose him again. Five years, Lana..."

"I know," the Sith replied. "But we won't. We have this under control. If we don't have it under control after all, I promise to help you decapitate everyone in there. Between a Jedi and a Sith, we shouldn't have much trouble, hm?"

Somehow - and she knew she shouldn't - Visper found this extremely comforting.

Teizi Lin

She'd just finished bartering for some groceries and was contemplating taking the long way back when the wave of dark energy hit her. It was suffocating. Teizi staggered under the weight of it, barely managing to keep her feet. It was coming from the beach - and it had to be Reyth. The twins had darkness about them, sure, but they hadn't been quite as keen on making a show of it like the older Sith girl. Her bootfalls quickened as she regained her mental footing - then slowed as the energy dissipated. Whatever had happened - just stopped happening. Her pace fell from a dead run to a fast walk. There was little sense in bursting onto the scene if it was well in hand.

At first, she didn't notice anything unusual about the scene. She nodded to Pyrran and Arksynn as she passed them on her way into the house to drop off the provisions. Taking a moment to put the items in some semblance of order, she took a second at the door to look out over the water. Ah. That was new. Teizi turned her head and squinted just to be sure she was seeing what she was seeing. Part of the beach had been ... turned into glass. Interesting, but not very safe for running around barefoot like so many of the children did.

Going back into the kitchen, she grabbed a colander. Next, she went outside and scrounged around the area until she found something that would function as a shovel. Finally, she tossed both into a piece of plating and dragged it behind her out onto the sand. Once she got out there, she once again stood for a moment to marvel at what she saw. A perfect basin of glass. Well, she wouldn't be needing this plating then. Tying a piece of light fabric over her eyes, she began chopping at the long, jagged spit of glass with the shovel - tossing the large pieces into the basin. After she'd finished moving all the larger pieces, she began sifting the surrounding sand with the colander. Hopefully this would take care of most of the glass shards, but there was still a pretty strong likelihood that someone would get a glass shard in their foot at some point. She didn't like that part, but there wasn't much more she could do.

The glass shards stuck up out of the sand for an impressive radius around that central basin. How they'd been formed was a bit beyond her, but in the end, all glass was the same and it needed to go. When she'd gotten as much cleaned up as she thought she could, she deposited the tools back in her makeshift wagon, and stood looking at her glass garbage bin. She looked down at the basin, then over at the small refuse pile of scrap metal near the house. That wouldn't be the ideal place for all this stuff. The kids could still get into it and she didn't like the idea of leaving garbage around. So...what was she going to do with it.

As the sea breeze sighed up toward her, she was taken back to a memory. A planet that seemed to be mostly seaside. She'd walked through the local market on her way to the shuttle and had stopped to admire a stall full of handmade mobiles and jewellery. The metal had been stripped from crashed ships, to be sure, but the frosted colourful pieces set in them were unique. The tender had informed her that it was seaglass - made from glass rolling over the rocks and the sand of the deep until all its sharp edges were smoothed away into these faux gems. She'd purchased a pendant.

Teizi settled her feet down into the sand, chin lowered toward her chest, arms held to her body at her elbows with her palms stretched out in front of her. Reaching out with the Force, she felt for the bottom of the basin, encompassing the entirety of it with the Force. She pulled the fragile thing, heavy as it was, up out of the sand and sent it out over the water. Sand fell from the object like rain, the sound lost to the sound of the waves. Further still. Once the glass was a good ways out from shore, she held it in place for a moment, repositioning her hands so her palms faced each other. With a push, she entire thing shattered. No longer a single structure to be held in place, the pieces all fell into the sea to be made into something beautiful.

Master Jesk

After his fruitless conversation with Siralai, Master Jesk paced the room, calming his mind and trying to formulate a plan.

The situation on Rishi could not stand. But Siralai was right about one thing - sending a contingent of Jedi to put a stop to it was not a viable option. There were too many Sith, not to mention questionable Jedi, on Rishi already. Sparking a showdown on a neutral world would be a black eye the Republic didn't need right now, with the situation so fraught and delicate.

But perhaps there was another option - an alternative to direct action.

After all, the Jedi Order had one reliable tool on Rishi. He opened a comm channel.

"Master Lin," Jesk said. "A matter of extreme urgency has arisen, and we need a Jedi who is both trustworthy and capable to face the danger. Can we could on your assistance?"

Neva Xolte and Akaavi Spar

And so it begins. Not their plan - the ways their plan was going sideways. Great. If they were somehow able to immediately incapacitate new arrivals, they'd be having to save two people before knocking off the last of the goons. Once of the remaining crew was going to have to be backup a little earlier than originally thought. She peaked at the other end of the room and had her answer as to who was going to be up. No way Akaavi was getting out of that mess and be allowed to stay in the casino.

Neva leaned back, and whispered none too quietly to one the gamblers that had come to try to prey on her good luck. "Hey hun, keep my seat warm. Gotta use the john." She swayed a little bit, as though the drinks were hitting her - impossible at their strength, but hey, she needed to sell it that she wasn't a danger to anything that might be going on.

Like serial kidnapping. Torture. Extortion. Money laundering. All that good stuff.

She pulled out a blaster and ducked into the back area of the casino, hiding amongst stacks of boxes. Trying to keep an eye on the guys wasn't too tough - getting them out of this might be a bit tougher.

Teizi Lin

She was in the kitchen, scrubbing hard at the colander to remove any trace of glass from the vessel when her holo warbled. Taking a stabilizing breath, she dried her hands and set the holo on the counter to answer it. When Master Jesk appeared, she pressed her fingers together in greeting automatically, though in the back of her mind she wondered why it was a Council member and not her padawan calling her. Particularly, calling her 'master'. Master Jesk's form of address caught her off guard. Did he actually think...no, someone like him definitely knew who was and wasn't worthy of various titles.

The rest of his introduction at least partially explained the apparent slip-up. He wanted something. And he thought she might refuse. Teizi wasn't normally the type to be suspicious, but she supposed that enough odd things had happened in the last few days that she was becoming cautious in leaping to conclusions. Still, no matter her concerns, she needed to answer the Master - and decide quickly on the path she would take.

"A Jedi must always be ready to lend assistance where it is needed, regardless of danger. What is this matter of extreme urgency?"

Felix Iresso and Theron Shan

Felix did not like this. Not at all. But he couldn't think of a good way around it. Nor, apparently, could Theron. By silent agreement, the two men followed the lead of their guides. Theron even managed to pretend to be enthusiastic about their 'VIP treatment.' Felix didn't, but no one seemed to notice.

To Felix's surprise, the room they were led to was not a cell or a killing ground. It looked like what it was supposed to be - a lounge area for special guests at a rather dive-y gambling establishment. The carpet was a little less worn and stained. The slot machines were a little newer. The pazaak table wasn't quite as scuffed. There was even more padding on the chairs.

"Please, have a seat," the bouncer directed, indicating the pazaak table.

The two men did so. A moment later, a waiter had arrived with a tray, providing each of them with a drink.

"On the house," the bouncer said with a weasel-like smile. "Further compensation for the disruption. We aim to please our customers. Is there anything else you need?"

"Nah, I think we're all set," Theron said, raising the glass in a mock toast.

The drinks posed a dilemma, though. The plan was obvious now - there would be no show of brute force. The prey was subdued by being drugged. That the drinks were tainted went without saying. But Felix and Theron weren't supposed to know that. They couldn't risk being incapacitated by drinking drug-laced beverages, but to refuse would put their would-be captors on their guard.

What to do?

For now, stall for time. By unspoken consensus, Felix and Theron pretended to be so focused on the pazaak game that was starting that they were sparing no thought for the drinks. But that ruse wouldn't last for long without suspicion being raised.

Master Jesk

"Thank you, Master Lin..." Jesk paused as if something had just occurred to him. "Forgive me. I have made a mistake. You have not yet attained that rank, have you?"

Of course Jesk knew that. He had known when he made the call, and he had not 'forgotten' as he claimed. He had misspoken deliberately - a promise of things to come, if Teizi were cooperative.

"I have no doubt that you will do so one day. Your career has been promising so far. You are exactly the kind of Jedi that I like to assist. For the benefit of the Order, of course - we need more like you. But for now, to business. We are very concerned about what is happening on Rishi. The Force is heavily disrupted, and the Dark Side is gaining sway. Mahr has been evasive, though, and Averrod... I don't suppose you know her past, but it stands to reason what is happening now. Averrod's behavior is becoming increasingly unhinged, and she can no longer be relied upon. I need honest eyes on the ground who can provide helpful information to the Order. Is that something you are able to do? Are you one the Order can trust?"

If Teizi proved useful in this, more active tasks than spying would be coming her way - as would the promised advancement. Loyalty should be rewarded, after all.

Neva Xolte

While the guys were feeling the pressure of time, so was Neva. She knew where they were, sure, but just because she saw them go in didn't mean they would come out the same way. What if they were already getting dragged out some other hidden door? She didn't hear any blaster fire, but that didn't mean much. They could be...gassed or doing some diplomacy shit. She needed to get eyes on them somehow.

Unfortunately, someone already had eyes on her. A large hand dropped onto her shoulder, the bouncer attached to it saying "Hey, you ain't supposed to be back here." She remembered that she was supposed to appear drunk in time to keep her hands of her blaster. Instead, Neva turned toward him and rested her hand on his arm, offering him a smile and a wink.

"Oh, are you sure? I thought this might be where the fun happened..."

As the man turned to look over his shoulder to check for observers, Neva clocked him over the head with the butt of her pistol. He went down, but she gave him another whack just to be safe. Pulling him behind the crates, she searched his pockets and came up with his pass card. Now to see if it would let her into this 'VIP area'.
